Photography Questions

Emily, on January 31, 2020 at 11:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hey all

One of our friends is a photographer and is doing our wedding (9/2020). She is doing this pro bono because this is her first wedding. I was wondering when we should sit down with her and go over how many hours she’s gonna do, what kind shots, etc. do you think it’s too early? Would you make a contract to sign?
How would you go about this since she’s doing it for free? We both have no idea about timelines or anything

So my friend did mine for free except I paid for her airfare since she doesn't live in the same state as me. But all in all that's a much smaller in costs than what she normally charges to do it. We didn't have a contract and I wish we did. Because it took forever to get my video. The photos she sent in a decent time frame but the video ugh it took so long! And of course since it was pro Bono it was basically me at her mercy. I got the video and I'm happy with everything but man it took a while. Literally got married mid June and she didn't give me the video til end of November.

Think now is too early to do a contract? I’m not sure how to tell her I want a contract without seeming like I don’t trust her..

She did our engagement photos no issue but the wedding seems like a bigger deal to me

Do a contract to agree to terms and be on the same page. Tell her you want in writing so you know the date is secure. I’ve seen too much Judge Judy! Lol

I would do a contract and tell her you want to do it to keep things professional. I hate to be this say but be careful having a friend. Do yippy want really good pics to look back on? I would almost suggest splurge and get a professional. Although I know at this point no way to to it without hiring her feelings. Nothing wrong with a contract now. I just booked a photographer and upon deposit I signed a contract.

You definitely need a contract agreeing to hours of coverage, turnaround time for your photos, etc. I would do that now and include something in there that if she backs out or doesn’t produce the photos, she owes your some sort of compensation. You need to make sure you and your FH are protected in this arrangement.
