We are having a somewhat large wedding, 300 people invited expecting 150-175 due to everyone traveling out of state. We are using the photographer who does our family pictures she's great and affordable! with that being said I am wanting some photo's while getting ready (towards the end) some first look photos, ceremonies, couple/ family photos and some reception photos. how many hours do I need? would 6 be enough, 4 is required or do I need some more than 6?

I had a small wedding and booked 7 hours and it was still tight. Do you want her to stay til the end of the reception?

I think this also depends on what you even want photographed for instance did you want any getting ready photos?

Depending on your getting ready schedule and dinner timing, I would say six hours may work. I definitely wouldn’t book less.

I would ask your photographer if you are able to add on additional hours later if needed. That way you can add on hours if you make your timeline and realize you’ll need more. My photographer said that we can add on hours later if needed and our contract specifies the cost of each additional hour we can add on up until day of - with our current rough timeline we decided that we need 7 hours but might extend to 8 (photographs from very end of getting ready/first look up until 20-30 minutes of dancing)

I agree I wouldn’t want fewer than six hours. She really doesn’t need to be there until the end of the reception though, unless you have a special exit you want captured (and don’t want to stage it for photos earlier - some people do that!)

I wouldn't go less than 6, but more could definitely be better. It depends on how many candid photos you want from the reception.

I would say 8-9 hours for the amount of coverage you’re asking for.
