Photography editing style

Linda, on April 2, 2024 at 12:54 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

I feel really bad but I just asked my Photographer if she could edit the photos at our wedding to be true to color vibrant and natural tones.

I started off by appreciating her work with my engagement photos then i followed up with the question.

Her style of editing is definitely beautiful. I just realized that it wasn't for me. She has 'bright and airy style' which I liked but I realized after we got our photos for engagement that the greenery in background is "muted" and not its true beautiful green.

It's my fault for not noticing how she edits greenery back when I had booked her few months ago.

I chose my venue for its greenery. The IG page for my venue all have greenery photos. But my photographer's photos made them look washed out/ lighter.

I know photographers don't like when we ask them to change their style..but I was told to ask her to change it since we're paying for these photos.

So I guess I want to know is it okay that I asked?

A sample photo below

The top is the photo that a friend took with her dslr of me no editing.

While the bottom my photographer edited her bluebonnet photo and the color of the flower is no longer true to its color.

It certainly is reasonable to request. Although the photographer in part seeks to demonstrate an artistic style, the photos are of your personal event. As the customer, you are not particularly aware of how the editing affects the background, so she should be considering that factor even if you have liked her style in general.

Also, you could ask for a little of both -- her trademark style and some pics emphasizing the garden colors. That may keep her a bit more confident by showing you still like her style in general. Also, if there are poses without the greenery, the photographer could stay more with her trademark style.

It certainly doesn't hurt to politely ask! I have seen some photographers advertise different editing styles and allowing the client to choose how they want their photos edited. If she's not willing to edit in a different style, then at that time, you could consider finding a different photographer for your wedding whose style matches what you're looking for.
