I took one of the other WW Bride's advice and put an ad. on craigslist to find a photographer. Lots of bad ones, but finally one contacted me that I liked. His normal packages were waaaaay out of my price range, so I was a little skeptical as to why he would even contact me. But we've negotiated a hybrid deal within my budget. He has several awards (from WW, actually) and great reviews on here, too.

My only concern is that he is asking for 1/2 the money as a deposit. Has anyone else been asked to do this? Most of my other vendors have asked for $100-$200.

Agree with everyone... half seems to be right. We paid 50% as deposit when we booked our photographer. Then, the week before the wedding, we paid half of the outstanding balance and then when our photos were ready, we paid out the last portion and they gave us our photos.

Yup, that sounds about right.. We had to pay 40% up front for our deposit.

We put down 1/2 as requested by our photographer. Then we'll pay the remaining balance on our wedding day.

We did half down to book the date, and the other half due the day of the wedding. We also got a contract.

We put down $1000.00. I was a little sticker shocked too. But I believe it is normal.

Mine was initially 30%...but since our wedding is so far out we talked her into 10% now and another 20% a year before the wedding.

Half is very normal for photographers. We require 25% total down to book our venue, and the remaining balance 90 days prior to the event.

A photographer can't book anything else that day because they block off the whole day for you. So yeah, its pricey but it guarantees that the day is yours. I've seen photographers ask anywhere from 25% to 50% of the full price.

Huh, guess I got lucky, I only needed $100 to reserve the date with the rest not due until one month before the wedding. (it's going to be about 2.2 grand total).

Then again, she is a friend of the family and we have to pay one month prior so I guess it's a little different.
