Photography and videography

Millie, on June 5, 2017 at 3:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

Hey ladies,

How much are you spending for photography (with a wedding album) and/or videography?

$4700 for videography and $6000 for photography with an album for 5 hours. Does this sound about right?

Thanks!

I'm sure your package is lovely and will give you many wonderful memories. Don't second guess the cost if it's worth it to you!

For me, it wasn't worth it to spend more than $1000 to capture a $5000 wedding, so we found a photographer we really liked for 4 hours for $700, no prints or albums. People do have very different priorities, and you shouldn't feel bad or like you're overpaying if they are magnificent at what they do and you can afford it and it's important to you. I'm sure my photos won't look half as nice as yours!

It depends on where your live, and if they need to travel to multiple locations. IMO your photography costs are very high. We're not even paying half that for 8 hours of photography,

I'm not saying to not go with that photographer but that price seems very high, are you having a lot of guests. Sometimes its more because they need assistants to capture more moments with a higher volume of people.

That sounds really high but people price based on supply/demand so clearly if they can charge that, then there is enough people keeping them busy.

The key is can you afford it and do you love their work?

That doesn't sound high to me at all for the BEST photographer/videographer (more than likely that's cinematography). The only thing that's causing an alarm for me is the limited time.

The photographer I wanted to go with was $5k - and that was his lowest price in his package. The cinematographer I originally wanted would have cost us $7k for the MINIMUM. So for my area in NYC, if you want the best in the business, that's exactly what you'll be paying.

I ended up looking for someone out of state for photo and I paid $3675. For cinematography, we paid $3440. My package included a 5 minute highlight film, a 25 minute feature film and two cinematographers. After the wedding, we asked for 4 Blu-Rays and they charged us only for 3 at a cost of $400.

My photography package included an e-shoot, all day coverage, a 20x20 album, digital images on a custom USB, a 10x20 metal canvas, eight 8.5 x 11 prints, 2 shooters and 2 parent gift albums.

I'm paying $3800 for 6 hours of service, an engagement shoot, and a 24 page wedding album. That is about average for my area. We look at some photographers that were a little cheaper and ones that were more expensive but all in that area. And her work at wedding and in her studio always blows me away so I'm really excited to have her shoot our wedding Smiley smile

No videographer for us. I can't see us watching it, so decided it wasn't a necessary expense.

I'm paying 2100 for 8 hours of photos with two photographers and an engagement session and probably 2500 for all day videography with two videographers. I'm in central Texas. Smiley smile

This is always the same discussion. It depends on location, priorities and talent. To some extent, it also depends on the number of locations you'll be including (getting ready, first looks, etc) and degree of difficulty (it is far harder to work in NYC than it is in most of NJ; parking, tolls, etc.....)

My videographers range from ****. My photographers are just about the same.

That's definitely way more than we're spending but if you feel it's worth it and it's important to you, you do you! We're only spending $1,500 on photography (5 hours wedding day + 2 hour e session) and our photographer is so amazing! I guess it depends on your area and what all you are wanting.

That sounds like a lot. My videographer is $1200 for 7 hours of coverage which includes a timeline and highlight film and my photographer is $2100 which includes a engagement shoot and full rights to the pictures.

This sounds totally on par with the photographers and videographers I was looking at ! The best compromise for me in terms of quality vs budget was around 5k each (in southern NC).

Price depends on a ton of different factors, and it all depends on what you are comfortable paying within your budget. On average, couples spend 12% of their total budget on photography & videography. I'd say if your budget overall is still looking good, and if photography plus videography accounts for between 10-20% of your total wedding budget then you're in the right ballpark Smiley smile

I think it depends on where you live and what extras come with your package, but it seems a bit high? I'm paying $1800 for all day videography and $3800 for 7 hrs of photography
