Photographs, what is a reasonable price for the album?

We have a budget for the photography for the day of the wedding. However, part of the decision in hiring a photographer is the cost of the album. Any idea what is a reasonable cost or what factors we should look at. We definitely will not print the pictures out and make our own album.

Not a cent over $499 . made to include anything you would like (i.e. wedding/cutural theme), yet handbound and a piece of art.

Maybe I'm weighing in here two years late, but I have to agree that the price for premium wedding albums is SOOO inflated.

I'm a graphic designer specializing in custom wedding albums and I can't believe how these products are marked up! There is definitely a middle ground here between paying an arm and a leg for the photographer's package ... and using Shutterfly templates. For example, my design fee is only $6 per page and I don't mark up the cost of the album. So, a 12 by 12 30-page premium pressbook with thick lay-flat pages from a professional print-to-bind source (like Zookbinders, Black River Imaging, or NationsPhotoLab) would only cost around $350 -- including my design fee...

So, my advice here is to shop around...graphic designers can save you a lot in this process. I hope this helps... All the best! Susan Gallagher
