Photographer/videographer meals

Karla, on August 29, 2016 at 11:11 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I thought I would mention this for those people that like me were not even thinking about feeding the photographer.

Before I joined it never crossed my mind to feed some of my vendors. Not that I was against it, but something that I just never thought about. Once I found out here that it should be done and why, I added them to my tentative headcount for budgeting purposes.

Well I just received my contract from my all day photographer and videographer and it clearly estates in the contract "90 minute lunch break or food should be provided". It has gotten to the point that they need to point it out or else people won't feed them? This guy and his team will be with me for full day coverage and that's the only type of packages he offers for weddings.

Thanks WW community for letting me otherwise I would've been shocked when I saw that on my contract

That's great that you remembered to include them, but a 90 minute lunch break? Am I crazy or is that ridiculously long??

ETA: @OP - Do they get a 90 minute break to eat the food that you are providing for them? They would miss so much of the wedding if that's the case?

Our contracts with our DJ and photographer also stipulate that food should be provided. I know both of mine personally, they are not "friendors" since they are professionals but I kind of feel bad giving them a vendor meal. Thinking I'll give them whatever is the lower cost guest meal instead.

90 minutes seems super long, but it does say 90 mins OR provide food, so I guess if you aren't giving them food, that gives them time to go and get something and eat it (in case your venue isn't near many food options). That's just my assumption though

Ask your venue/caterer about the pricing for vendor meals. Should be lower because it should not include alcohol.

For our venue we have to get catering through them, and honestly they have very reasonable prices for food. $25/pp for plated meals! I wouldn't mind paying the full meal for them or getting "the vendor meal" I'll follow up with my venue regarding that.

I do think 90 minute lunch is kind of long, since I only get 60 minutes at work, but I think it's one of those, what would you rather do? Pay for our food or us be gone? The photographer will be with us since we are getting ready until an hour before the party is over so basically from 11 AM as we get ready, until last call around 11:00 PM

We definitely made sure our vendors were feed properly. We actually made sure they had exactly what everyone else had. They worked so hard and long for us so why shouldn't they enjoy a nice sit down hot meal.

To be honest, I did not even think about taking a break during the very first wedding I photographed. For some reason, I just thought, "I'll have time to eat along the way ...".

NOT! I almost fell over 6 hours in. Now I'm prepared and part of that preparation includes letting the Bride and Groom know that I too will need to take a break (30 minutes). I can either bring my own food and/or the couple has a meal for me. It's nice having the meal provided as it's one less thing for me to carry around from one location to the next/leave in the car. The best time to take this break is when the Bride and Groom are sitting down eating. No one wants pics taken while they're eating.

You don't know until you're either told or experience it yourself!

Vendors usually like to eat when everyone else is eating because who really wants photography of everyone eating? So we are providing a meal for them and a separate space and room just for them so they can get away from all the craziness and take a break!

We're just feeding our vendors the same options the guests get. An extra $20/plate is nothing when I'm really hoping to butter my photographer and officiant up, hah. I mean honestly, they're the people making my wedding happen.

Another thing I think people forget is if you provide favors, order them for your officiant and photographer too. I think it's a really nice touch to make sure they're completely included in the reception.

We are feeding all our vendors the same meal we are having. I emailed each one and gave them the same options the other guests are having. They will also have their own table in a private space away from all of us, so they can really relax during their meal break. The other option my venue offered was a "boxed lunch" for the vendors---yuk! I sure wouldn't want that and I wouldn't inflict it on anyone else.

It's kind of you to consider feeding the vendors with you all day. I don't know about a 90 minute break though, that's way excessive. I may take 30 minutes if I'm lucky,

I will definitely follow up with my venue regarding meals, but since this guy and his team will be with me for over 12 hours that day, I do not feel bad feeding them, plus we have the space and room in the food budget.
