Photographers?

Hey so I was wondering when you hire a photographer do they just go to where the venue is no matter where it is or are you suppose to hire one in the area of the wedding?

Hey. I know some photographers do travel to where your wedding is and some don’t. My photographer is from the same state so that was no issue but she does travel to other states as well. I did end up booking a videographer from a different state since it was cheaper and they do travel to my state. Just have to do your research since some do and others don’t

It depends on the photographer. Some photographers will charge travel fees if the location is a certain amount of miles away from them.

Definitely depends on the photographer. Before signing a contract, I suggest meeting with the photographer first. They'll typically ask you for details about your wedding: when and where. This way, they can check if they have availability that day, and they would know where to show up to. If they don't ask you for this info, make sure you share it with them. If there's any additional cost for them going to your venue (especially if it's far away from where they're located), they should be upfront with this cost before booking, and it should also be in your contract if there are any travel fees.

Unless you are able and willing to cover their airfare and lodging, most people pick a photographer where the wedding is located.

I would start with photographers in your area (or area of the venue if it's significantly far away from where you live/a destination wedding).

We're getting married relatively close to where we live (Cleveland, OH area). We chose a photographer who is also in northeast Ohio and it's been super convenient for meetings, our engagement pictures, etc. She's familiar with the area so she had great recommendations for our engagement shoot, and recently just went on a venue tour with us.

Our photographer does travel for weddings, but it's usually for couples that live here and are going back to their home state/where most of their family is for the wedding, and there is a travel fee involved.

Depends on your photographer and how much you're paying them.

...Mine traveled to NYC from Toronto, because I have contacts in the industry. (Friend's husband is kinda famous, now? And couldn't do our date, so he said, "here, hire this one." Gift horse, mouth, just hired.)

Local is usually cheaper - or at least won't charge a travel fee.

I think it depends on the photographer, we're hiring one in the area so they don't have to travel too far. This way we avoid possible traffic & potentially being late.
