What would be a good price range for a photographer and videographer as a package deal?

This depends entirely on where you live and how many hours of coverage you want.

I need 7 hours of photography and about 5 1/2 hours of videography.

With the company we hired for our wedding, we had 2 photographers and 1 videographer with 7 hours of coverage for both (plus some additional extras we wanted) which cost approximately $5,000 for both.

At the time of signing the contracts it seemed like a bit much, but once we received all video(s) and photos back, we saw just how much it was truly worth it!

Your location will also greatly affect this. For reference I am paying $3500 for just my one photographer for 8 hours of coverage and a 2 hour engagement shoot in Des Moines, IA. This is common pricing throughout the market give or take a few hours or the engagement shoot. I was quoted for a second shooter and that would have added $1,000 for the 8 hours of coverage.

If youre wanting both and choosing independent creators is outside your price point you can also look around for media companies. Essentially these companies hire a team of photographers/videographers and send them out to do the jobs. They train them to use a common shooting style and then use the same editing technique for all customers. This does have drawbacks though as you may never actually meet or communicate with the person taking your photos prior to the day of your wedding. you'll only communicate with the company. The nice thing is if something comes up and the person originally assigned can no longer make it or gets sick they always have back ups in place.

It also depends on quality. for instance a friend of mine paid like $1k for photo only and that's EXTRA cheap but then it turns out the photos weren't that great

This depends greatly on your location, and the quality of photos you want.

We paid near $3k for our photographer and it came with an engagement session, 8 hours of wedding day coverage (she gifted us another hour for free to equal 9 hours), opportunity to select photos for her to have printed for us, a customized flash drive of our photos, a second photographer, and personalized timeline. She was amazing to work with, and the quality of her work and talent is beyond what I could have imagined!

If there's one area I would stress to not skimp on, it's photos. We just had our wedding Saturday, and our sneak peeks are gorgeous!! Worth every penny. (you can check out my BAM post for an idea on the quality you'd get for the price we paid in the middle GA area)

It depends. I live in New York but I’m getting married in Maryland. We’ve hired a very high end priced New York photographer that will be traveling to us. 10 hours for $6500. Then we’re paying $3550 to a different company separately for a videographer for 9 hours of coverage, a 6 min wedding film, and a roughly hour long documentary style edit of ceremony, reception first dances/speeches, first look if applicable, cake cutting etc.

So I guess it depends on you. What’s important to you. Your budget. The quality of the services you’re paying for. The less you pay the bigger chance you’re taking on the quality of your photos/video. If you’re going to pick one though I would do photos
