Photographer-second shooter dilemma

Hazel, on August 24, 2021 at 2:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hi everyone! So my wedding is in THREE days! I found out today that my photographer tested positive for covid and will not be able to shoot our wedding. LUCKILY she found a back up person who will be filling in for her to take the pics, and she will still edit them. However, originally (and on the contract) she said it’d be her and a second shooter taking the pics at the wedding. She is asking me to pay full price, but I think there will only be one photographer now. If the back up photographer doesn’t have a second shooter, should I really still pay full price? I’m not sure what the expectation is in this type of situation, but I feel like she’s not providing me with what I agreed to pay for, but I also want to give my vendors what they deserve! So any advice?

I would contact the photographer to ask if there will still be a second shooter (as per the contract), and wait for her reply. If she says no, then I would ask her at that time to refund you the cost of the second shooter.

If there is only one photographer (and not even the one you wanted!) you should definitely not be expected to pay full price. I would reach out to your photographer, ask for information about the photographer filling in for her (at the very least their website and social media so you can view examples of their work), and also ask if there will still be a second shooter present. More than likely, the original second shooter she had scheduled to work with her, will still work your wedding with the new stand in photographer. but I would definitely verify that with her!

Agree! Find out if there is a second shooter or not as per the contract, and make sure to pay accordingly.

If your contract states you will have a second shooter, then she is obligated to provide one! I would contact her to make sure there will be a second shooter there. If not, I would ask her about altering the price since she is not holding up her end of the contract.

I think she is obligated to find you a second shooter. This is one of the reasons I’m really annoyed my photographer refuses to get vaccinated bc I think this is a bigger risk she will
Test positive and have to cancel. It boggles my mind that people work in the events industry and refuse to get vaxxed.

How it went, Hazel? Did your photographer find you a second shooter or was there a discount? I'm really worried about getting into the same situation and our contract also says there should be a second shooter, so I wonder how did it go for you. I mean, the couple can find a side photographer or even do all the edits in Photoworks on their own if they wish, but since the contract says something it should be done...
