Yall. Please tell me to get over it if you think that's what I should do. But here's the deal. We booked our photographer back in October, I knew nothing about wedding planning or what I would like in photographer. She was cheaper than most of the others I saw online ($2000 for engagment session, 7 hours day of wedding, online gallery, second shooter). Well we had our engagement session in November and I will say I only liked maaaybe 10 of the like 180 photos we got back (she literally sent back every photo she took..they were edited). She gave almost no direction during the shoot and she had not been to the location before so we had to figure out the best spots while we were there. She has never been to our wedding venue either. I'm a little worried I won't like our wedding photos. Okay to sum that up: I didn't love our engagment photos because we are talking and mouths are open and just awakard!, she has not done a wedding at our venue, and I'm just having regrets here!

I don't think these look bad! I actually love the one with he sun on you touching his hand. You two make a very handsome couple! I wouldn't hire another photographer to save yourself money, and stress! I really think these are good photos. I would just ask to sit down with her and maybe show her some photos off of Pinterest or something that you like and say you want this type of style photos for your wedding. That way she can get a better idea of what you want and your style and emulate it in her photos. I really love these photos! The colors all go well together and the lighting is amazing. I think she's a talented photographer and if you just meet with her and talk some she'll exceed your needs and wishes! Best luck!! Smiley smile

I felt the same way after our epics. During pics, they did say that the more natural pics turn out the best...Capturing the moment/expressions. I did talk to them afterwards about a few things...I felt at ease with them after that convo Smiley smile.

Photographer here! I actually love these photos! I think only the second one looks a little awkward. I love the last two Smiley smile If you're uncomfortable in front of the camera or with your photographer though, it will show. I recommend meeting with your photographer and telling her how you feel... Were there things that made you uncomfortable at your engagement shoot? Tell her what you'd like (a little more direction). Tell her which photos you do like (if any), so she can try to take more of those kinds. I'm a photojournalist style photographer too (I love candid moments the best), but even with candids, you still give a little direction to help ease your clients ;-) Your photographer WANTS you to be happy and love your photos. I think these photos are great, and if you talk a little more with her and get more comfortable, I think your wedding photos will be beautiful too Smiley smile

@Rachel thanks for weighing in from a photographers point of view! She mostly told us to look at each other and smile, that's about it ha! But you're right I do need to tell her what kind of photos I would like to see in the future

I had the same thing happen. We hired a friend of a friend to do our engagement shoot and she did great all but maybe 5 of them I liked. So the photographer we hired for the ceremony did my bridal photos and I hated all of them except 2! Luckily for me though she ended up being pregnant and is due the week of my wedding! Needless to say I dodged a bullet! The new photographer we booked is amazing! I would look around if you're not happy.

I actually really like them. The second one you posted was just an awkward shot I think. I'm a naturally awkard person in front of a camera lol. There is bound to be a couple awkward shots. Of she sent you all the pics she took and not just the best out of all of them there are bound to be some you don't like. I really like the one where you guys are looking at each other and laughing!

I think it's your body language that makes the photos look awkward to you. To me if I saw that on a coffee table & didn't analyze it too much it looks pretty.

Also you say she didn't give direction but you were posed?

Another thing is vendors are good or bad. It doesn't matter if they have been to a location or not?

I'm having the same problem with mine. I think because there's no do overs, and because of the amount of money being spent, you need to go with what makes you most comfortable and trust your instincts! That's what I keep telling myself too lol.

Personally I think the photos you shared are beautiful! However you definitely want to feel comfortable on your wedding day. I agree that there's nothing wrong with asking for a consultation before the day to discuss style/posing/location/etc. Also, IMO $2k is pretty good for a professional wedding photographer that also includes an engagement session. Looking for a higher quality photog will probably be quite a bit more (+ the lost deposit) if budget is a concern at all.

At the end of the day though, photos are probably the most important vendor for your wedding so you should be confident in your choice!
