Photographer Question - To email or not?

K.M., on November 1, 2017 at 11:07 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

FH and I had our e-pics done by our wedding photographer around October 5th. When we finished the session I thought she said at max it would take 3 weeks but FH swears she said about 3 weeks. Well it's been almost 4 and we haven't heard from her. So far I haven't contacted her because I understand she's in the middle of her busy season with weddings which of course are much more important. I'm just wondering if I should email her and ask for an update? I haven't received as much as a preview and just kind of want an ETA on when she thinks they will be done. I double checked our contract and it only specifies the timeline for wedding photos and not e-pics. We absolutely love our photographer and I don't want to come off in the wrong way by asking when we will get our pictures back. Should I email her or just be patient?

I would email her asking for an update. Just cite your excitement . She should understand if she's a pro who has done this before.

Just email her and say you are just checking in, can't wait to see the pictures. Do you know when they will be ready by for us to view? Or something like that. If you keep it nice and simple it won't cause any problems.

Thanks! I honestly am probably overthinking this. I just feel bad since she recently moved a few states away so I know she's been traveling back and forth every weekend since the majority of her business is still here.

As long as it's not a nagging email, like "hey lady, it's been a month! What's the hold up!" I think it's perfectly fine to reach out Smiley smile probably is just a delay because it's a popular time for weddings, but I see no harm in reaching out for an update!

I know how excited you must be! We're supposed to get ours this week and I'm semi-patiently waiting (I just want to see them now!)...but I wish you could at least get a sneak peek until she's ready to give the rest to you!

I think a simple email asking for an update is fine. Maybe add a nice little compliment stating "I can't wait to see the pictures, I know they are going to look amazing."

Go for it what harm could it do?

I would email and don't nag about it. She should understand if this is the only time you asked her about them.

Welp your contract doesn't have a timeline for those photos (are you sure the same timeline doesn't apply for engagement photos?), so that sucks and is mistake number one (on her part for not including it, and on your part for not confirming that before the session).

Since it was never confirmed, send her an email... "Hi X! We had so much fun at our engagement session with you and we can't wait to see the photos! :-) Since there is no specified delivery timeline for our engagement photos in the contract and Fiance and I can't remember how long you said after our session, could you please let me know when we should expect to receive our photos, that way we can manage our expectations. Thank you again for such a fun session!"

I'd email, but keep it light. I know you're excited, but do you NEED them for anything soon?

Sorry everyone, I got pulled away at work for something.

Rachel - our contract is extremely thorough but originally did not include engagement pictures. We ended up adding an addendum at a later date.

Gym - I definitely plan on it!

Stacey - I hope you get them back soon!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I'll wait until this evening and send a short and sweet email asking for an update.

TXBride - I more of want an update than the actual pictures. If she told me it would be a few more weeks than I would be fine with it. I have a while before ordering save the dates so I'm less worried about that and more of just want an update since it's past the quoted time.

I would give it another few days. It's Wedding season so photographers are very busy.

It hasn’t been that long, but always have delivery time in contract. I think there’s no harm in a polite and enthusiastic email that’s not pushy or accusatory. You’d be fine with that, just to get an ETA.

Would love to know if you contacted them, and how it went! My FH is really pushing for me to contact our photographer but it is so awkward and only a few days past our contracted due date so I am trying to put it off.

You can tell her that you want to give e-pics as Christmas gifts to the parents.

Stacey - I contacted her this morning. Just a light email asking for an update (I also asked how her new city is treating her). She immediately responded and apologized for the delay. She said she was currently working on editing and we will have them this evening! She was incredibly understanding and told me to never hesitate to reach out.
