I discussed with my photographer that I want mostly candid shots from our wedding! I’m not big on posed photos, but of course the typical wedding shot poses must be taken!

My biggest must have is my dad’s reaction shots of seeing my in my dress for the first time. He is 73, has health issues, and is trying so so hard to stay healthy and safe during this pandemic. I know he’s looking forward to our wedding so much.

@Brittany, maybe instead of a list of poses you could let the photographer know which moments to be sure to capture? That way it is still candid and there isn’t risk of missing any special moments. I agree, honest/candid reaction shots are my favorite wedding photos. FH hates posing for photos too so we minimized the number of those.

This. I send my venue a list of what I want to have from the photographer, including what side and angle I prefer.

Daughter's venue had a collection of large number of photos taken at weddings that past brides had shared. Daughter perused those and got some ideas, like having the photos of her dress taken hanging from the top of the gorgeous double staircase and photos of her, taken from the back, pushing open the beautiful double wood and glass doors out to the ceremony site. The pictures of her at the door are my favorites of her alone from the entire day -- stunning. However, her photographer was awesome at also catching things in-the-moment from his unique perspective. For example, he was shooting the ceremony from the back of the venue and his second shooter was covering it from just to the side of the altar. Once the ceremony was well underway, he sprinted back inside the venue and up the stairs and took beautiful shots of the entire assembly looking down through the second-story windows, and then sprinted back to his usual place.... Those photos are amazing and so unique. Daughter sent the link for her full gallery to the venue event director and she said he captured pictures that she'd never seen in 15-years of working there. So, I agree with providing some ideas, but then encouraging your photographer to use their special talents to create pictures you'll treasure.

Also, an idea daughter got from a friend's wedding was, at the end of the ceremony, for the officiant to ask the guests to stand and turn around at their seats. The photographer was stationed at the back of the venue, up a few stairs and took the "whole group" photos as the B&G were walking back up the aisle. You can see just about everybody and the setting was beautiful -- so much better than most "okay, everyone gather for a posed group photo" we've seen. Good luck!

I went to my wedding venues website and social media pages, checked out the photos that had been posted or hash tagged, and took inspiration from those. It really helps to photos from your actual venue!

We didn't particularly have any, but my photographer came highly recommended by a friend who is also a photographer.

And then, me being short and DH being a LOT like my father (though a little shorter), the following happened:

    Photographer must have photos 4

    Photographer must have photos 5

Actually, there are multiple pictures from throughout the night of either my dad or DH kissing me on the forehead/top of my head.

It's just a recurring theme that means a lot to me.

So... is there a Thing between you and your FS or a parent that you really want captured?
