Photographer lost engaged photos...

Michelle, on September 24, 2019 at 1:42 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7
A friend of mine (also a bridesmaid) agreed to take our engagement photos for a low cost and we were so excited. Two months went by and she said she would finally start editing them, which we thought was a little late but oh well... Turns out she lost the memory card entirely. And I'm so upset. She keeps trying to make herself out to be the victim. "I haven't edited any photos yet... I'm so depressed... I have no creative energy..." And when I told her she has two weeks to find the memory card all she said was "I'll give you guys a refund." Am I allowed to be hurt by this? Have any of you had a similar situation?

You're definitely allowed to be hurt or mad or annoyed. That really stinks. But I'd simply take the refund and maybe get the photos done by someone else. There's lots of time before your wedding so you don't have to worry about that. I get that it's frustrating but it's completely out of your control at this point.

I wish she was just honest with you guys, but can you re-do the pictures? She is in your wedding party, so you don't want to burn that bridge, so give her a chance to make things right. Good luck.

Of course you're allowed to be hurt!! It's not like she borrowed your favorite purse, lost it, and you can just get another one. These are photos!! Technically irreplaceable!! I mean, yeah, you can recreate the session, I suppose. But what a bummer. And how irresponsible of your friend!! I really hope she doesn't call herself a "professional" photographer, because a true professional would never let that happen.

You should absolutely accept her offer of a refund, and find someone else to take your photos. If your photography budget is tight, check out Thumbtack and/or Craigslist for less experienced photographers. You often get a much more affordable price that way, using someone who is building their portfolio.

Do you already have a wedding photographer booked? If your package doesn't come with an engagement shoot (many of them do), then maybe talk to them about adding in a session, and what that might cost. You shouldn't have to forego engagement pictures just because your friend turned out to be a flake. I'm so sorry this happened to you!!

That's awful! I would hire another photographer and redo your engagement photos!

I would be sooo upset! and i’d feel a little uneasy having someone who was so dishonest with me in my wedding party. if you can afford it i’d get them taken again with another photographer and you can even be really specific and let them know why and ask a ton of questions.

I would be pretty hurt by this. Definitely take the refund and rebook your photos with someone else who is a professional!
