Photographer just sent timeline. Thoughts?

Allie, on July 24, 2019 at 4:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

3:45pm- photographer arrives at venue

4pm- Bride arrives at venue

4pm- photographer begins photographing details. Dress, invitations, shoes, rings, etc.

4:15pm-Bride gets into dress. Getting ready shots

4:30pm- First look with bride and father

4:35- First look with bride and groom

4:40pm- bridal party photos

5pm- Family photos

5:30- clear the venue for ceremony. photographer photographs guests arriving, food, cake, etc.

6pm- Ceremony

7pm- Bride and Groom Photos

7:30pm- Bride and groom grand entrance

9pm- photographer departs

NOTES: I'm not having a bridal party so I'm thinking about extending the first look with groom to get a lot more photos of the two of us. Also considering not doing family photos until after? I'd also like to move up our grand entrance to 7:15pm because I know our ceremony won't be more than 30 minutes long.

    My thoughts:

~ Get rid of bridal party photos, and move family photos to 4:45.

~ 5:15 clear the venue, because (talking from experience) some guests show up really early

    ~ 6:30 B&G photos

    ~ 7:00 Grand Entrance

    ***OR***

Great ideas! Yeah, I was thinking some guests may show up earlier than that. Did you do sunset photos? My goal was to get 95% of the "just us" photos before the ceremony so we could spend most of the reception time with our guests.

Are you able to have someone drop off your dress and details before you arrive? That way the photographer has more time to get detail shots and you aren't rushed to set things up for her/ get the dress on.

No, but I'm not too worried about that. I don't really care to have the detail shots. I mostly just want to make sure I have enough shots with me and FH. My mom can help her set up for the detail shots.

We did a first look, and did ALL of our photos before the ceremony (us, bridal party, family, etc.). BUT it was sooooo HOT, that we didn't feel like taking a bunch, so I'm nervous to see how many we actually got lol. We did not sneak off for sunset photos though, because 1) I ended up getting over heated and had to sneak away from the reception so I could lay down, get out of my dress (it had a corset and lots of layers), and get someone to go get me a change of clothes and 2) we just wanted to have fun and didn't want to sneak off at that point, lol. Our bouquet toss and garter toss was super lazy as well because we just didn't care at that point. I swear I got married on one of the hottest days of the year, even thought the venue was indoor / outdoor.

Anyways, especially since y'all don't have a bridal party and are doing a first look..you should definitely be able to get most if not all of your photos before the ceremony.

Oh yeah, I'm so terrified about the heat. I read your post and I'm bringing a backup dress lol. Supposedly its 10 degrees cooler on the side of this mountain venue but we'll see. I know we are going to get so caught up talking to guests and partying that we won't want to sneak off to take pictures haha but it would be cooler at that point.

The time frames seems so short for the first portion of the day. Setting photos of details tend to take more than 15 minutes just set up alone specially with multiple details. As far as first looks feels like a very short amount as well.
I would do just you two before the ceremony and family photos after ceremony so less people see you and you two have some alone time before.
From personal experience working around the photographer timeline is important because they have the best lighting options and is good to go around that. You’ll always have to change things around so it works for you so that’s totally fine.

Yeah, I'm thinking about ditching detail shots all together because it was never a priority and then just focusing on me and FH before the ceremony. As long as I get pictures with my husband, my dad and mom, I'll be happy. I just want to make sure I get must-haves before the ceremony in case the reception is a blur.

I personally wouldn’t skip the details but then I’m a detail person. I had a ton of details and I wanted to make sure it was all photograph so I won’t forget. However I has 2 photographer and 1 assistant so that made it easier. I love now looking back and seeing all the detail shots just as much as I love seeing the two of us and everyone else being photograph. That’s just my experience.

I gotcha. I'm just not into it really. I'm saving invitations and STD's so if I ever want to look at them, I'll have them.

What about the getting ready/ hair and makeup pics? Do you want any of those?

We have our photographer for 8 hours so she is showing up 1 hour after we arrive to the salon and ending at the cake cutting time.
