Photographer Interview!

Bailey, on October 15, 2019 at 6:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

We found a photographer that we LOVE and I've been following her social media to guarantee consistency and her work is AMAZING! Long story short... We can't meet in person due to schedule conflicts this month and are going to be calling her to make sure she's cool and book her. I usually rely on my abilities to read people's body language and get a better feel for people but I trust her reputation and work she's posted.

Any ideas to maximize this phone call? Any questions I should ask? HALP.

She gave us a quote for $1,200 already over IM (engagement photos and like 7 hours of coverage, heck yeah!)

Can you schedule a video call? That way, it will be almost like being there in person. You'll get a look at her, and her body language.

I'm not sure where you're from, but that's a good price for so many hours of coverage. I would also want to know about the rights to the photos, and/or raw footage. Will there be a second shooter? How long to get the photos back? Will you actually get prints included in that price or just digital photos? Make sure she has a contingency plan in her contract--in case something should happen to her that prevents her from coming, what is her backup plan?

    Good luck!!

In addition to her contingency plan, what equipment does she bring/will she have backup Incase of an emergency on wedding day?
Mine shot with a double memory card that way if one card got corrupt, there was a back up with no images lost.

Thank you so much! I have such terrible social anxiety with new people and have a hard time actually saying important things that need to be said (like will I actually have my photosXD ) because I'm scared of stepping on toes. I really want to be prepared for this though and make sure she knows I'm serious and make sure she'll be a good fit

I came up with a questionnaire for all my vendors when interviewing them. I create a questionnaire for just about everything and it helps cover some of the questions that people wouldn’t think to ask but may wonder about somewhere down the line. There are a few “what to ask your photographer” type surveys online.

We met our photographer over the phone — and I feel like it was still easy to get a good read on her vibe, energy and style just from the way we interacted. Literally met her in person for the first time on the day of our wedding—and yet it felt like seeing an old friend!

Hey! I just wanted to say we hired our photographer over the phone too, so don't worry. You cna still catch their general vibe. We hired a married couple and we had a big call with the 4 of us. They were sweet and funny and we even had a bunch in common. We spent some of the time just chatting and I felt right at ease. I'm super nervous over the phone too so I get it. But if they're right, you'll know.
