Photographer Inquiries

Kelsey Brielle, on July 10, 2018 at 1:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Good afternoon ladies and gents, so FH and I have already booked our venue for 2020, and put down our second deposit. I am starting to look at photographers now, to get an idea and see if we can lock in some pricing for this year. When I was filling out the contact form on the website I realized I have no idea what to put in the message. With the venue inquires, it was easy or they already had a form asking "how many guest" "your budget" ect., However I am stuck when it comes to photographers. When you all were inquiring about photographers, what did you ask them? Much help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Inquire about their different package options and the prices. Do they have a reliable second shooter? Additional albums for you to look at to get a better idea of their style?

I agree. You definitely want to look at different packages to see what all is included in each.

If its a basic first email I just inquired about basic packages and pricing, also ask if thy'll book you this far in advance. Usually the inquiry will have the date and location on it as well then you can go into more detail about time. If they had extra questions I'd reply with answers but for the most part their initial response should have most of the info you want. Make sure you look at websites and portfolios and pick people whose photos you love!

Be sure to ask if there is a backup plan in place should they have an emergency the day of. Ask how many weddings they do a year and what do they like about shooting weddings.

Packages and pricing, and some sample portfolios, to rule out those out of your budget or just bad at what they do. Once you have that out of the way, you can start to look for things like second shooters, whether engagement pics are included, preferred photography styles, etc.

I would ask for pricing, samples, how many photos are included in the package, if there's any editing involved, etc. I would also ask how long they will be available for (which they will probably discuss when they're talking about your different packages). Good luck in finding a photographer!!

I would also ask to see complete albums, not just the best ones they select to be on the website... it will give you a better idea of the type of photos they take.
