Photographer Help!

Cristina, on May 30, 2019 at 2:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Okay so I'm trying to figure out how long I really need a photographer. Our ceremony begins at 4:30 and the reception is over at 10:00. I know I'll probably want before pictures while I'm getting ready with my bridesmaids and then pictures of our grand exit at the end. How long before the actual ceremony should we have the photographer and in total? Is 8 hours enough? Any advice would help. Thanks everyone!

That's pretty much a question for the photographer because they all work differently and take more or less time to do things. I will tell you that we are getting married June 6 2020 and our ceremony is at 445 and the reception goes until 11. We are doing a first look and also want sunset pictures. They are coming at 1pm for the "getting ready pictures and for pictures of the random things and we hired them for 10hrs.

I hired ours for 8 hours. 2 hours getting ready and 6 total hours for the wedding. If she came for 10, it would just be more getting ready pictures so not anything crazy.

It depends on your timeline really, but I would say that 8 hours is plenty! I hired our photographer for 6 hours. Our ceremony is at 5 Pm, so I have her coming in at 3 to get detailed shots, getting ready, and group shots of the groom and bridal parties. Then, she will capture the ceremony. After that, more group shots, family shots, and bride and groom shots during cocktail hour. Reception begins at 7, so she will get all of the important shots during dinner, speeches, cake cutting, first dance, etc. She’s done at 9. Reception is over with at 11, but I don’t really see a need for her after 9. We also have a videographer that is staying until the end and a photo booth open from 6-10. I’m just gonna have my sister/MOH take photos of our sparkler exit. 😄😄😄

You know what that's not a bad idea to just have a family member take pictures of the exit. I'm planning on doing a sparkler exit to so I think that may be able to work. Thank you.

We are having our photographer for 8 hours; 3-10pm or 3:30-10:30pm. Our ceremony is 5:30 and we are doing a first look as well as our wedding party pictures before the ceremony. We will do some of just us immediately after as well.

8 hours should definitely cover it. You can have him shoot the guys while you are having your h/m done. You don't need him in the bride's room until you are about to put on your dress. You want your h/m done in any robe shots you take before putting the dress on.

So basically, with 8 hours, you'd have from 2:15- 10:15 pm

I'd say 6 is doable if you're trying to limit the number of hours, but 8 is better if you want to include some getting ready, first look, ceremony, and most of reception. I'm working on our timeline now, as we are one month out, and this was something that I also struggled with in the beginning. My photographer is coming to take some "getting ready shots" with my hair and makeup done and just slipping into the dress plus some photos with my bridesmaids, mother, etc. Then going to do a first look before the ceremony. Good luck!

We had a very similar timeline! Ceremony at 5 and reception over at 10. We had 8 hours of photography from 1:30-9:30. She got the detail shots and a few quick getting ready shots when she arrived and then we did our first look, bridal party photos, and family photos before the ceremony. It worked well for us! I didn't care about having her at the hotel with us while we got our hair and makeup done since everyone had phones and took pictures anyway.
