Photographer disappointment

Brooke, on September 10, 2017 at 11:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Welp, fh and I sent the contract and down payment in the mail last week to secure our photographer, only to get an email saying someone else handed them money for the same date quicker than our check came. So starting over from scratch. I get it, that's the business, but I'm super disappointed.

He offered to either send the check back or void and shred it.

That's terrible business. Shows they are money hungry instead of giving you a set amount of time to put your money down.

So sorry that happened to you. Smiley sad FH and I had a similar situation, although we hadn't signed a contract and written the check yet. We had hoped to use the same photographer that did our engagement photos, but before we could officially book her she realized she's not available on our date. But she gave us some recommendations, and FH met with and booked one of them! He said she was very nice and professional, and her work online looks great. So it seems like it was a blessing in disguise! Hopefully you have the same luck, you've got plenty of time to get someone booked.

Not sure where you are in Wisconsin but look into Duluth photographers. There are a bunch of really good ones. I'm using Derek Montgomery (and his package comes with a complementary photobooth!) but there's also JaneCane, Baily Aro, Three Irish Girls and a lot more!

I'd normally agree, that it's the photographers right to book whomever gets them money first, but if a contract is out and being signed, it's pending and it shouldn't be a game of who gets it there first. Unless you took abnormally long to get back to them, they should have been yours.

Sorry OP, I was in your boat of having to start from scratch, it wasn't a contract situation, the photographer we wanted decided he 'might' be moving and couldn't commit anymore to our date. We were devastated, he was fantastic, had great photo's and most of all, the right price. We did end up finding someone new within 24 hours of that and we love his work even more. Sending luck to you!

I'm with Fall Bride. This is definitely not something you right a negative review over.

OP, it happens. The date wasn't yours until the money was in their hands. That's just good business practice. What if you had flaked and the other couple had moved on to someone else? Our photographer had a week "grace period" where she held our date while we made our decision. It just depends on the person.

That's terrible. Every vendor I've worked with has "held" my date with the agreement of payment....pitting people against each other for a date it stupid

Sorry this happened! Ugh!! I find most vendors will pencil you in for a week or so, giving you time to read, sign and send the contract/deposit. Uncool of him to do this. Good luck

So, the photograper wrote and gave out two contracts for the same day? That seems like terrible business practice if you ask me. @Emily , And that is just what we do, we pencil the bride and groom in for the particular ballroom and email out a thier contract. We give 72 hours....(not a hard 72 hours) because life happens. I bet this will be a blessing in disguise. Sorry this happened.
