Photographer dilemma

Conny, on July 23, 2020 at 4:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
We’re getting married in a month and we just got our engagement photos done . They’re horrible Smiley sad we had maybe 200 prints and of those 40 were remotely ok and we picked 7 which I ended up editing myself with filters from my phone to make us look halfway decent. I expressed my concerns to our photographer and he said that he can edit or send them for editing to make certain changes we were unhappy with. I feel very frustrated because in my view when you awns final photos they should be close to if not perfect especially for the amount we paid . The work was subpar and I don’t know how I missed this prior to booking I think I was just eager to get A photographer not a good one. Well I’m no longer comfortable even being around this person because our pictures are sub par. I checked with a few of my friends and family and they agreed for the price the work is not great.
FH and I talked. He has agreed to forfeit the deposit and look for a different photographer the original one I wanted anyway and her work does seem to match her price . I’m nervous there is an additional cost per the contract to canceling less than 60 days out Smiley sad . What is a policy yet professional way to break this contract. I’m afraid I cannot move forward with if’s and maybes . If I’m not content with engagement photos from this person I don’t know if I’ll be content with wedding pictures Smiley sad all of this in addition to planning a wedding during Covid ugh.

If you hate how they turned out, hunt for a new photographer.

Be upfront and tell them you don't want to work with them anymore. You don't need to explain beyond that.

If you're not happy with the product you've paid for, I'd definitely not hesitate to find a different photographer. I'd just send them a simple, to the point email.

    "Hi _______,

FH and I have decided to go a different route for our wedding photography. We understand that we will be forfeiting our deposit as outlined in our contract. We appreciate you working with us up to this point and wish you all the best with your future contracts.

    Sincerely, Conny."

It's a professional contract, so while I totally understand you wanting to be nice, don't worry about hurting their feelings.

Were your pictures similar to this photographer's previous work? Just curious - that really doesn't change the fact that you're not happy with them, which I'm so sorry about. Smiley sad

Agree with PPs! Normally it would be very difficult to snag a new photographer this close to your date, but you'll hopefully be able to find someone with an opening.

Looking at the previous I work I can see how our photos look similar only worse Smiley sad
Photographer says the wedding day pics will be better but how can I trust that if our engagement photos were like this? I feel like your work speaks for you not your words . Amazing person just not for us Smiley sad

By luck we found the original person we wanted as her wedding was canceled and pushed back a year! So she has an opening. It’s a financial cost but the alternative is to gamble on our big day with someone sub par

Same thing happened to us. We lost money, but it was the best decision to hiring someone else! We were so unsatisfied with our original photographer’s work that I knew I would regret it for the rest of my life if I knew my wedding photos would turn out bad. Do more research, that’s how I found the perfect photographer who was actually cheaper, but had so much more talent and our engagement photos looked amazing!
