Photographer deposit

We paid 50% when we booked her and 50% a month before the wedding.

My photographer required 40% and my friend’s photographer required 50%. It’s always somewhere around there!

That sounds pretty normal. We paid 50% deposit and the rest is due a month before the wedding

I think 50% is pretty standard, but you said he was a "potential" photographer. Don't give him any money until you're sure you want to hire him.

For all of our vendors we had to pay a 50% deposit - which is nice to get it out of the way!

My DJ/planner package required a 50% deposit.


I know your wedding is far off, but I'd make sure the contract says you get a refund/get to postpone your wedding without penalty if the pandemic is still an issue and/or the borders are closed.

We also paid a 50% deposit. Our photographer was willing to make a payment plan if we weren’t able to pay the 50% right away, but our date wouldn’t be secured until we had that 50% down.

Our photographer typically requires a 50% deposit to book however we spoke with her and were able to set up a monthly payment plan because our date was about 8 months out. Talk to your potential photographer, they may be able to set something up for you too if 50% up front isn’t doable. Never hurts to ask!
