Photographer cancelled :((

Corbin, on February 13, 2018 at 9:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I booked my photographer last july, and she just messaged me and cancelled since her friend is getting married the same day and doesn't want to miss it. While I understand her not wanting to miss her friends wedding and appreciate her refunding me my money she is still in breach of our contract. Now, when looking for a photographer i am having a hard time finding one that is available on 9-22-18, and they are all way more expensive. I intentionally booked last year to get a discount since we are paying for the wedding by ourselves and are on a tight budget. Now all of our back ups are booked or they upped their price but hundreds of dollars. Other than finding a new photographer is there anything i can do since she breached the contract? Should she have to pay for the difference of my replacement?

*she did recommend two photographers that she said were in my budget but both had little to no wedding experience so i do not feel comfortable booking with them.

I don't think there's anything else you can do, unless it's clearly stated in your contract. She already refunded you what you gave her and provided recommendations in your budget, so in my opinion, she's done with her end of the contract and that's all you can do.

Maybe we can help you out. What's your budget and location?

We share the same date! 09.22.2018. Not to be a Debbie Downer but here in the Midwest September is one of the more popular months so vendors fill up super quick! I know with our photographer he had a clause that said if he was unable to make it to photograph the wedding he would personally find our replacement. But like you said, that could mean we get someone with absolutely no experience. Was there supposed to be a second photographer there? Maybe they are still able to make it and then you could also have one more inexperienced to do the pictures that don’t really require experience to shoot? If not then I know sometimes there are “wedding swap Facebook groups” where you can find vendors. That’s how I found my new baker after my original got pregnant last month (exactly 9mo in advanced lol). Hope that helps!

One thing to remember about any contract signed is that they are not for the benefit of the consumer, they are designed to protect the business.

Also to keep in mind that if there is a breech of contract and you do try to legally force the issue how well are the pictures going to turn out if the photographer doesn’t want to be there?

Have you checked alternative platforms like craigslist and thumbtack for photographers?

The bright side is she refunded the money.

I’m sorry you have to go through this. Do some research and look around, I’m sure you will find someone but you might end up paying more to ensure you have an experienced wedding photographer.
