Photog

Tiffany, on July 10, 2020 at 7:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
So I’m having hiring regrets! The photog I hired included the videog in the price as well & he wasn’t my first choice I had someone else in mind but FH liked him. Long story short we paid him in full last summer (i know foolish) and now I want to switch photogs based off an experience with him he rubbed me the wrong way, but paying in full means I would lose all my money since there are no refunds on deposits. What do you guys think? Do I have a chance at refund or should I take the L and hire the person I’d like instead?

I would just go with him, especially if his work is good enough. unless you can afford to lose out on that money but that would be quite a bit right?

I recommend checking your contract, the deposit amount should be listed, regardless of if you paid in full upfront. Did the photographer request 100% of the total cost as the deposit? If not, you may be able to get some money back if you switch (such as, if you paid the full amount owed of say $1000, but the deposit amount was $500). Otherwise, if you'd lose everything, you'd have to decide if you're financially willing to pay a new deposit for the other photographer.

Read over your contract very carefully. Paying in full shouldn't be part of the deposit. You will probably lose some, but you shouldn't lose all of it. That's just crazy.

If you decide to go with the other photographer, you could always tell your current one that you found a different photographer that more closely matches the style you were looking for, and that you need to cancel your contract.

If he made you uncomfortable in some way, I wouldn’t go with him. A deposit is never the full amount, so definitely comb over that contract and find out how much you’d lose if you switch photographers.

I would look over the contract carefully and if you have any friends in law get their expertise. From what I understand deposits are no refundable. However any additionally payments cannot be held for services not performed.
