Photo vs. Video

Jessica, on January 12, 2020 at 8:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
So, we just met with a photographer and my fiance is now convinced photography is way more important than videography and only wants to have photos of our wedding. I obviously disagree and think we should have both. But what do y'all think?

We decided against videography simply because we could not make it work with our small budget. Best case scenario we would have it. I think video is nice to have but not 100% necessary.

I wanted both, but my husband didn't care. We had extra room in our budget so we hired a videographer. If you have the room in your budget then I think it is totally worth it. I don't have my video yet, but I can't wait to get it.

I think video and photography are both nice to have. I khow I can look at pictures anytime. It's just something about our wedding video that the pictures didn't capture. We got to see peoples reactions to us saying our vows, hearing the laughter and cheers. We got married almost 3 years ago and I've looked at my video more than I've looked at the photos. If you can afford the video go for it.

I think both are really important! Photos you’ll look at more frequently for sure, but our video is something I cherish like nothing else! It really allows you to relive the day in a way that photos just can’t do. I felt like I was in such a haze the day of our wedding and it’s really amazing to be able to watch it all over again and soak it all up

One of the first decisions we made was no videography. I've never seen my parent's wedding video. They've never watched it since the first time almost 40 years ago. Most of our married friends haven't watched theirs either and feel like it was a waste of money. And we don't really want to see ourselves on video.

I agree with your fiancé if there’s only budget for one. We were bummed we were too far over budget for a videographer, but 2+ years later don’t miss it. We LOVE our photos. Still haven’t bought canvas prints for our home but have made albums for us & family, photo holiday cards, photo frames for our jobs & home.

We are just doing professional photography, not professional videography. It wasn’t worth the price, to me.
We will be setting up three cameras on tripods (family member is a photographer) to capture the dances.

I agree on both! Photographs are timeless, but with advanced technology it’s amazing the videos they can make of people’s wedding days these days.

We're just doing a photographer. We plan on displaying our wedding photos in our home and feel we will get more use out of the photography instead of both. When my uncle got married years ago he and my aunt had both. He told me (in the early stages of planning and trying to decide), that he and my aunt have only looked at their wedding video a handful of times within the last 12 years they've been married, but they get to look at their wedding photos every day b/c they're displayed in their home. He told me not to waste the money on both, and he said if they did it all over again they wouldn't have had both.

It is personal preference though and if you want both, go for it! For me personally, I'm just worried about possibly losing the video from the wedding over the years; which is another reason why we decided to go with just a photographer.

We're doing both. We adore our photographer and also feel like it would be fun to re-watch the day and all the parts we missed while taking pictures, talking to guest, etc. Smiley smile

If you've the budget for video I'd do that too. Honestly I cared more for video than photo purely because it actually captures the whole day in a highlight but photography if you've a good photographer then it'll be good too. Either or as long as you've got something capturing the special day

We are only doing photography. We likely won't watch a wedding video so we aren't going to waste our money. Photos will be displayed in our home but a video would just be wasted in our minds.
