I'm about to sign my photography contract and decided to go over it again closely. She has a clause in there that says the photographer owns all the rights to the photos, and any time we want to post one on social media, forums, or anywhere we have to tag it with "Photo by: Her name". Is this...

I'm about to sign my photography contract and decided to go over it again closely. She has a clause in there that says the photographer owns all the rights to the photos, and any time we want to post one on social media, forums, or anywhere we have to tag it with "Photo by: Her name".

Is this normal? It's important for me to own the rights to my pictures, and I don't want to have to tag my photographer every time I post a wedding picture for years to come. Am I overreacting if I push for the photo rights, or is this a normal part of the contract?

So, as someone who has worked with photos and copyright issues, I would just check your printing rights first off.

As far as digital rights, if they give you watermarked images, I would stick to just those for social media purposes. If not, you may be able to solve the tagging issue if you create an album in which they are tagged in and selected as a contributor, and later just share from the album rather than upload new images.

BUT clarify that with the photographer to see if that's acceptable. Copyright is no joke. Ask them to clarify their expectations and if possible, word it more clearly in the contract.
