Photo Booth: Worth It? Or Skip?

Lisa, on March 18, 2022 at 4:08 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 54
What are your thoughts on photo booths at weddings? Are these fun/generally enjoyed by guests? Or an extra expense that isn't worth it? Are you doing a photo booth at your wedding?

Our guests really enjoyed the photo booth and we got a lot of great, fun pictures out of it.

I've always heard positive reviews on photo booths at weddings. I think people really like having silly/ more casual pictures with friends and family, and the pictures can even be considered wedding favors if you were considering doing favors. They are definitely an extra expense though, so think it over with your budget. Photo booths aren't an expectation, so nobody should get themselves in a twist if you don't have one. I think we're planning to knock out all of our "mandatory" things and then evaluate whether we have the budget to include a photo booth.

I've never heard negative remarks about a photo booth. I think it allows for more silly/fun pictures at a wedding AND gives guests something else to do during the reception besides just dancing

We’re doing a photo booth as it was included in the package we chose but we wanted another factor that package included which is why we picked it🤷🏻‍♀️ We didn’t pick it for the photo booth

We’re on the fence. We have never seen this at weddings personally as guests but past friends have mentioned that they were popular in their circles. Plus they are always popular at festivals and street fairs we’ve attended.

In our families and circles, guests either dance or mingle and extra activities would throw them off. But it could be fun.

If you can afford it I say go for it, they are fun and a nice memory for everyone but I never go to a wedding expecting to see one.

I used to work for a photobooth company and from the point of view of an attendant, people always had fun taking silly photos! If you do get one, try to make an effort to use it yourself, I often had to remind the bride and groom that they hadn’t taken any photos yet and they would always have fun when they did.

We’re definitely having a photobooth at our wedding because of that experience! The company I worked for has switched from local events to shipping rental photobooth a nationwide for a pretty decent price (Pixilated Photobooth if you want to check it out). We’re going to try to make time to be in front of the photobooth for a while so guests can come take silly photos with us too, it should be a blast!

I personally wouldn't mind this expensive trend fading away as I've seen it for 14 years now. They keep getting more ornate to keep competitive. And maybe I'm too anxious awkward for staging. Some alternative styles could be artist caricature, polaroids/ fuji cameras, or backdrop and ringlight for selfies. Good luck deciding.

I heard they are a real hit but I wasn’t planning on doing it then my venue did a “book by the end of the month and the photo booth is free” so I booked in time to get the promotion. A few weeks later we went to a wedding open house that had the same photo booth I’m getting and I loved it and would have probably added it on after I saw it in action if it wasn’t already included.

I’m still trying to decide on whether or not to do one. It sounds like a great idea but we haven’t had any help with people that said they were going to. So far, they haven’t.

Glad to hear it worked out well for your wedding! Did you get paper copies or digital copies of all the photos? Did most of your guests use the photo booth? One of our vendors offers a photo booth option for a really decent price, and we're trying to decide whether to spend the money for it or not.

I agree that photo booths aren't an expectation! We have the option of adding one onto a current package that we have booked, and are trying to decide whether it's worth it or not. My biggest concern is whether most guests will use it or not.

I also don't think I've ever heard a negative review for a photo booth, but I also haven't been paying much attention to photo booths, so I don't know if I just overlooked any complaints lol. I love that it gives guests something else to do! I'm not much of a dancer, so as a guest, I think I'd appreciate the option.

My fiance and I are also on the fence. One of our vendors offers it as an add on for a really good price, so we're considering it. I've heard good things about photo booths, but haven't really been to a wedding that had a photo booth, so I'm not sure if most people use them or not. I love the idea of providing an extra option of something to do other than dancing (especially because I'm not much of a dancer myself), but not sure whether this is the right option or not. From what it sounds like so far, photo booths are popular! We'll probably end up adding it.

I also never expect to see one at a wedding, but I also haven't attended a wedding that had one, lol. They do sound fun! Do most guests use them?

They printed out copies of each photo and put them in a book where our guests could write something. Guests also got a printout of their photos and if I remember correctly could also have it sent to their phone. We also got a USB with all the photos. We also had a video option with which was fun to see post-wedding.
A lot of our guests did use it. As a PP mentioned, the attendant had to make sure that my husband and I used it because as much as I wanted to there was never a free minute. I think we only did one or two pictures.
I feel like with all the props it's a good opportunity for people to get a little goofy and silly if they want.

Good point - I would definitely have my day of coordinator remind me to go try out the photo booth! I could certainly see myself losing track of time and forgetting to make my way over to it, lol. I agree that people typically love taking fun/silly photos. From your experience as a photo booth attendant, did most guests at wedding use the photo booth (or at least enough guests to where it was worth it)? I haven't really attended a wedding that had one, so my biggest concern is paying for it and then no one using it.

I actually agree with you that I'm not really crazy about all the bells and whistles on a lot of the photo booth options that I've seen. There seem to be a lot of fancy options/setups. One of our vendors offers a simple photo booth for a decent cost, and we're debating adding it to our package. I love the idea of a caricature artist!!

I never had an event where no one used it, especially weddings. Corporate events tended to be a little less fun but during weddings I was always busy unless people were just sitting down to eat or listening to speeches. Even then I would get the odd people out who weren’t doing what everyone else was doing. In my point of view it’s always a hit at weddings! I would just add to that to make sure it’s in a space people can see or easily find, if the photobooth is in a less used room or closed off from the rest of the party (this happened most often in historic venues with lots of little rooms, less so in one big space) it definitely gets less traffic and photos. You can also instruct your dj to remind people to take photos in the photobooth, that always helps bring more traffic if you’re worried about it.
