Photo booth or caricature? Or both?

WishUponAWilson, on October 22, 2017 at 8:36 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

So FMIL is paying for the photo booth. She also offered to pay for the cake but now my stepmom wants to pay for the cake (which is totally fine!) So FMIL wants to pay for something else. We were tossing around the idea of having a caricature artist at the reception. Would having both be too much activities? Would you prefer to have one over the other? Caricature artists can do about 15 faces per hour. Cost is not the issue. What would you like at a reception?

I think I would go with the caricature artists because it's so different.

Would they be willing to foot the bill for anything else?

Honestly all of those sketches are going in the trash. When was the last time you walked in a home and the owners had a nice framed caricature of themselves hanging up...

Consider late night snack, custom meal stations, dessert table, an edible favor, or a top rated DJ. These are things that can enhance the guest experience that won't end up wasted.

MrsBdeG. We are having a sundae bar and candy bar at the welcome party the night before, a Viennese hour at the reception and a live band.

I see what you mean though about ending up in the trash. Something to think about

The last caricature portrait we had done at a wedding, we framed because it was so awesome. You could do that in place of favors.

We are doing the caricature artist for the rehearsal dinner. And as far as the sketches ending in the trash...we ended up hanging ours because it was an awesome picture and it was a nice memento from my friend's rehearsal dinner (which is where I got the idea!).

I'm tossing around the idea of doing both a Photo Booth and Caricature Artist, too! I like the Photo Booth option since it is so trendy right now. But the caricatures are fun and definitely different. I agree with MrsBdeG that some people will toss is, but others will cherish them Smiley smile For my fiance and I we like the caricature option because we found a caricaturist who does pictures of people as superheroes (my FH and I are superhero nerds).

As another suggestion, I have heard of people having an artist come and paint a live picture that you have to keep forever. I would suggest that and then one of these two options.

I want to dance and party at a wedding...I will also hop in the photobooth with friends to get some photos. I probably would not sit still long enough at a social event like a wedding to get a caricature, but that's just me.

I wanted caricature initially but I figured for the price and how much we would get, that photobooth would be more up our alley. We went for photo booth.

I feel like people would choose not to get a caricature drawn if their plan was to "toss it in the trash."

We had caricatures at our wedding and they were a huge hit. If you choose to do it, my only advice is to announce that the caricatures are free for guests up front and make sure guests know to get in line. Our artists were sitting with no guests for the first 15 minutes or so because our communication was poor.

Caricature sounds like a lot of fun. If you can afford it, go for it!

That sounds like a bunch of fun! I'd be super excited about going to a wedding with both. Go for both!

I framed my caricature. I don't think people generally throw them in the trash.

We are having both. My sister thinks it's overkill but I think it's just more stuff for people to do.

    I say go for it.

The caricaturist! They have a fantastic little picture to take home, not just another 3 shot photo booth that is so over done.

Oh I love the idea of a caricaturist. Yay, clap clap.

Go with photo booth, it can get to more people, and you might have the option where your guests keep one copy and you keep one copy, which can go in a scrap book as an alternative to a guestbook. I always loved that option!
