Photo booth competes with dance floor?

TeamEJ2009, on May 2, 2017 at 1:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Random question but I am in the process of booking the DJ and I can't decide on whether I want a photo booth or not. I have attended weddings and events with photo booths and without and couldn't help but notice a few things. Photo booths are lots of fun and everyone, including myself, seems to enjoy them. HOWEVER, whenever there was a photo booth involved, the dance floor was kind of empty (ESPECIALLY if the photo booth was outside the reception room- which was the case in a work event- there was hardly anyone on the dance floor because the bar and photo booth were in the cocktail room). Even when the bar and photo booth were in the same room, I still found the photo booth to "compete" heavily with the dance floor. I remember at this one wedding thinking I wouldn't want a photo booth for this reason. Then at the same time, I want one because I think they're so much fun and as a guest I prefer having one. I also find them kind of ugly. TO HAVE ONE OR NOT IS THE QUESTION! Lol

I think if you can , go for it !! I love the photo booth idea . Who can resist a banging dance floor , make sure you have a great Dj .

Unless you're planning on doing a photo scrapbook, I'm personally not a fan... they feel like an awful amount of money for a strip of photos where I'm forced to wear some bright orange feather boa. I think as long as there is music, food and alcohol, no one will miss it and your wallet will be happier for it.

I went to a wedding where an entire table of friends was waiting in line for the photo booth, when the salad course was served. And cleaned up, because they were still in line...

If you aren't 100% for a photobooth I suggest skipping it. Use that money to splurge towards something that you are dying to have.

We are putting the photobooth in the main dining room with the DJ, as suggested by the DJ. We originally wanted to put the photobooth in another room to spread out the space, but the DJ said it would create competition between the rooms. Our photobooth will close down for dinner.

Every wedding I've been to in the last couple years has had a photo booth. We aren't doing one. I would rather spend the money on a live band.

I came right to posting. I have seen photo booths keep dance floors empty when both are happening at the same time. Perhaps your booth can be open from cocktail hour - up to dinner. Or booth open until 1st Dance.

The DJs I have talked to say they can't give it for less than 3 hours. I think I'm leaning more towards not having one.

I'm not into the photo booths, personally. As a guest, if it's a large wedding, I hate standing in line waiting when I could be dancing! I know it gives people who don't like to dance something to do, but I feel like these are overdone. I'd save the money! People will take pictures on their own Smiley smile

Around here we have dancing throughout the night and the dinner courses are served with breaks between them, for open dancing.

I think I've been to one wedding, in the last 5 years, where they had a huge cocktail hour food spread and then we sat down and were served a pasta appetizer, salad, and entrée courses - one right after the other- before dancing started. Needles to say, I may have eaten half of what was served.

We had a photobooth and it was a huge hit. Our dance floor was packed all night and almost everyone went into the photobooth at some point. We have 200 more photos like these.

We are getting a photo booth and I know that it will definitely be a huge hit!! When people aren't in it, they will be on the dance floor so it won't be a competition. Definitely go with it!!

I am getting a photo booth! I am not too worried about the dance floor not being packed. People will do what makes them happy.

I am having a photo booth at my wedding. I've only been to one wedding that had one, but it was a huge hit. I feel if people want to dance, they will be on the dance floor. If they don't want to dance, having a photo booth or not isn't going to get them on the dance floor. At least by having a photo booth, I am giving people the option to partake if they would like. If they don't want to have photos taken, then they simply don't have to stand in the line. Smiley smile
