Photo booth alternatives?

Alison, on March 31, 2016 at 9:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Anyone have any reception activity ideas that don't involve a photo booth or a video booth? I feel like they're used a lot and I want to do something different.

We had giant jenga. It was a huge hit!

ETA: It was so inexpensive to make as well.

We went to a wedding with a caricature artist and my FH and I framed the picture and have it hanging in our house. I love it so much.

We are having an indoor/outdoor fall wedding and have cornhole boards painted in our wedding colors with our monogram on them. Just something fun. The boards can run $100-$300 but they are yours to keep after!

Have you considered socializing, drinking, and dancing?

Yes, Katie90 Smiley smile But I'm also trying to be considerate of people who don't dance. I've constantly read that people who dance feel catered to at weddings b/c entertainment is provided for them in the form of a band or JD. And then the ones who don't dance feel like there's nothing for them to do but watch other people dance. I'm just trying to offer another option for those folks. I think part of being a good host is catering to your entire crowd and trying to be hospitable to as many people as you can, no?

@StacyGtobe, if you decide to rent the Ms. Pacman arcade but are having issues, let me know. I volunteer for the Arcade Department at MAGfest, one of the biggest (temporary) arcades on the east coast. I'm sure I could get you same names of people to rent from. Best of luck on your wedding!!

    Drinking, dancing, talking, eating.

    That really covers it.

Idk if you have big partiers, but my FH mentioned having beer pong for all of our college friends (later in the reception). If you plan to have kiddos there, maybe a kid corner with legos/coloring books/crafts. Also along with a giant Jenga, you could do corn hole or cards.

There was no way I was going to pay the $800 going rate here for a two hour photo booth. I bought an Instax camera and 20 rolls of film for it for around $100 on a screamin' sale. We are going to use it for the guestbook and then with the leftover film let guests do their own photobooth type thing. It's a small wedding.

I have tried to find a caricature artist anywhere in Montana to bring in with no luck....have been searching for 6 mo. Have asked colleges, art studios, word of mouth, high school art depts., everyone who will listen! LOL Super sad because I thought it was such an original idea (which after reading comments turns out it isn't....hehe).

We are musicians and have lots of musician friends so there will be that....but not a dance per se. I bought several of those cube 'get to know you' games, have tons of stuff planned for the kiddos so the parents will feel free to stay longer and enjoy themselves. Thinking about having other board games also....

I think the caricature idea is a great idea! The only thing that I would caution is to be aware of how many guests you have and how long one drawing takes. You may have aggravated guests if they have to wait for a long time in a long line.

If you think that 1 caricature artist would not be enough, maybe consider 2.
