Phones During the Ceremony

Hi Everyone! What would you recommend doing to keep phone usage during the ceremony to a minimum or none at all. I was at a ceremony recently and the bride and groom put a sign that said "This is a phone free ceremony" but no one followed it. Any suggestions?

I wish everyone was that way!!! I have seen plenty of people stepping into the aisle w their camera so that even the groom couldn't see the bride walk down....then holding phones up the entire ceremony...

Didn't work for me either. Although I got sneak peeks back from my photographer and there aren't any issues with phones in the shots. My officiant told them to put their phones on silent and away for the ceremony and I wasn't really looking but I think people respected that. Only when I got to the aisle I definitely saw phones all up in my face lol. But it seems that they snapped a quick shot when I got to the beginning of the aisle and then put their phones down because the back view I don't see a phone which is better than I thought!

Genuinely asking, not being snarky. How is taking a photo of my SO or child walking down the aisle take away from me being "present" at your ceremony. what does that even mean, you're not even in the room yet! Of course I wouldn't do it while your saying vows or whatever, but I really think people blow this out of proportion. It's not that big a deal.

We are just having our officiant do a quick announcement before the ceremony something all along the lines of "The bride and groom want to thank you all for coming out today to witness their marriage. Please put away all phones and cameras as they have hired a professional photographer to capture the ceremony!"

This is the sign that we had up at the entrance to the ceremony. Everyone respected our wishes. I do have this file if you would like it.

We didn't have an unplugged ceremony, instead our officiant asked for everyone to keep their devices and themselves out of the aisle. This was we still got some photos & videos from the ceremony (we are still waiting for all the professional photos & videos), but people weren't in the way.

Our officiant announced it. Don’t think everyone followed but it’s worth a mention
