Philadelphia Fall Wedding

Crystal, on May 16, 2018 at 12:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
So I’m planning on getting married the fall of 2020 but I’m curious about what I have in mind for our ceremony. We’ve discussed dates pretty early on to get a jump start on things. We agreed on the fall but I’m realizing that a fall wedding on the east coast it’s starting to get cold around that time. I’ve always imagined having a beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony but I’m not sure how it’ll work. Any advice? Has anyone had an outdoor fall wedding on the east coast or any tips on what you think I should do? Thanks in advance!

It really depends on how early in the fall. I live in Philly so I know it can still be pretty warm in most of September or early October but once you get into the third of fourth week of that month I would just be careful. Anything in the second half of October into November and December you should plan for an inside ceremony.

I think the best advice is to make sure you find a venue that has a good back up space that can accommodate all your guests and you are happy with. That way you don't have to decided until the night before or morning of when you gauge what the weather is actually going to be like. This works best if you are doing the ceremony and reception all at one place so you don't have to call your guests at the last minute and let them know the change of plans.

But so long as your venue has both an inside back up ceremony space and an outside space you should be pretty well covered. This is what my FH and I decided. We would not book a venue that did not have a ceremony space inside we loved in case of rain or other bad weather.

I got married on 10/7 outside in NY. It was sunny and mid-high 70's all day!

That said, our reception was indoors, and the ceremony was at the same venue, so if it was colder or raining, we would've had the ceremony indoors as well. So you def need to have a backup, but an outside, fall wedding in the NY/NJ/PA area is definitely possible.

I'm getting married in Philly at the end of September and we are planning to do an outdoor ceremony (with an indoor backup plan). We thought that timing would work best weather-wise, because early September can still be very hot around here, but mid to late October can get very cold. So if you are early October you would probably be ok. But just make sure you have a good indoor backup plan in case.

End of September/early October would be your safest bet. Our date is 10/28/18 (northern NJ) and we’re hoping for nice weather, but do have an indoor option.

Thanks for your advice ladies! My FH and I discussed the date issue and will take all of this advice and chose a better day based on what you all have said.

Fall in a beautiful time to get married. I’m getting married at the John James Audubon Center and they have apple trees where they hold the ceremony which will be beautiful that time of year! At the John James Audubon Center they also have a beautiful barn that gives you that outdoor feel without really being outdoors, just in case they day happens to be super cool. You can also check out other venues by Jeffery Miller Catering like Tyler Arboretum and Wilkenweir!
