Petticoat or no petticoat?

Grace, on November 30, 2018 at 11:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
So this is my beautiful a-line dress, which I'm ordering in less than a week! Cannot wait to wear the gorgeous thing. My question is, are you supposed to wear a petticoat under a-line dresses? I've seen such mixed opinions that I am very unsure. I want my dress to be a poofed out, but have intentionally not chosen a ball gown because I am so clumsy. So, petticoat or no petticoat? Reviews on the dress haven't been very helpful.

Could you try it on with one? I think it's a preference thing. I know you can, and you can get so many different size petticoats. Maybe order one from Amazon then return if you don't like the look?

I have an a-line dress and I do have a crinoline to go with mine to give it a little bit of poof. I didn't think mine looked right without it.

Try it on with a small petticoat (only the bottom layers), but there’s no need for a full petticoat

I think the dress is gorgeous without a petticoat! However, I think whether you choose to purchase one or not will depend on how the dress looks on you when you try it on.

I am wearing a petticoat. The dress kind of fell flat without it, and it didn't make it super poof at all, it actually gave it the shape it's supposed to have. I'd order a cheap one for the sake of just seeing if you like it, you can always return it or buy a higher quality/more comfortable one.

I didn't have one! I didn't want one though. I wanted it to be more whimsical and flowy than poofy and structured.

I agree with this. Try it on with one, every dress is going to fall different with a petticoat under it. You also may find that you don't need it. My dress is an aline dress and the skirt has so much fabric that a petticoat would take away from the line and get a bit swallowed.

This is a gorgeous dress! You could define wear a petticoat but you could also go without it! Sometimes an A-line Gown is good without it as it has the perfect amount of volume on its own! If you want a little more poof and structure then go for it! You could definitely take the dress to a place like David’s Bridal and try on their a-line slips, which come in different levels of fullness!!

You gotta try it on with one! For me adding the petticoat made all the difference! Just beware it caused some creasing in the front of my dress because the skirt wasn’t meant to accommodate the extra bulk, i lad to bring the petticoat to sit lower on my hips to fix that which made it kind of annoying but worth it. Also make sure you have your petticoat before gemming because it dramatically impacts the hem. Here’s my dress without the petticoat, and then with.

I bought an aline dress for my wedding. I am planning to wear a mermaid style slip to give my dress some structure without being too puffy. I will try to look for a picture of it. i got it from David's bridal

Here is the slip I posted about earlier. I thought it was a mermaid but from the looks of it I think its a aline slip. It's really comfortable and not hard to walk in. I tend to be clumsy too.

I think what I will do is order the dress first, and then decide from there. Thank you for the advice!

Your dress is beautiful! And the petticoat gave your dress the exact look that I want for mine. Which is how the picture looks, but I am VERY realistic about ordering online lol. Thank you for the advice!!
