Pets as part of the ceremony?

Future Mrs. Lowder, on April 28, 2020 at 1:24 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
Hey y’all..
I originally wasn’t going to do an entire wedding party (bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer, etc.) so we opted to pick who were both closest to and ask them to stand there with us. Both of ours happened to be our younger cousins (both boys) so there are no girls involved in our wedding party. I was going to ask a family friends daughter to be our flower girl but that fell through. My dogs (2 GSD, 1 male, 1 female) are very important to me and I’ve been trying to incorporate them into the wedding. I’m thinking about having my boy be my “ring bearer” and my girl my “flower girl”. Thoughts on this?

I love my pets too. It can possibly work, but I’ve heard too many embarrassing stories and seen it myself of well behaved dogs not knowing how to handle this novel, exciting environment. If it were me, I would take engagement photos with the dogs or something like that, but I wouldn’t take the risk on ceremony day. Plus some people are allergic or afraid of dogs even if they are well behaved.

Our dogs are going to be my Dog of Honor and his Best Dog. So I vote do it. But also maybe look into a service that picks the dogs up after the ceremony so that no one has to worry about them and you can enjoy your reception.

My dog means everything to me. He was incorporated into the proposal and was a part of our engagement photos, but I still don't think it's a good idea to include him in our wedding. That is partially because I don't think he would enjoy it and partially because I'm worried about something going awry (like him getting too excited and jumping on my dress or getting overwhelmed and crying or having an accident) and partially because I know it will distract me the day of the ceremony to be worrying about his needs being tended to.

Our dogs are my life lol. So I knew I wanted them to be a part of our day. However, I also know that dogs can be unpredictable, especially when surrounded by a bunch of people. So we decided to do just photos with them. We did a first look and after our first look our dogs came up for photos. It was a great decision that worked well for us and we absolutely love the photos!
