Hi everyone! I have a dilemma before the dilemma even starts.

I HATE dress shopping because I am TINY and have a rectangular shape (no curves, nada, just a stick!) therefore any dresses I ever tried on was horrid. (Prom dress shopping was a disaster and I hated it.)

I don't want to feel like this when I go start looking at dresses. Smiley sad I am excited to look at and try on dresses, but I am just terrified that NOTHING will look good on me.

Anyone here have ideas or suggestions on shapes for us petite ladies?

I am 5'0 and 115 LBS.

Here are the 2 main dresses I have in mind:

https://www.essensedesigns.com/essense-of-australia/wedding-dresses/d2425/

https://www.essensedesigns.com/essense-of-australia/wedding-dresses/d2526/ (my DREAM dress)

My party is supportive and assure me I will find a dress, but what if I don't like ANYTHING because nothing will flatter me and my pale, petite, slim, curveless self.

Smiley sad BAH.

I have the same problem I’m 5’2 118. I would recommend going with the designer Hayley Paige! That’s who I went with and I will get my dress made custom. She has all sizes and styles and a lot of her styles look good on petite frames. Here is the dress I got! This is the sample. The custom dress will take awhile to get back. I liked almost every Hayley Paige dress I put on!

For petite, rectangular body shapes A-line with soft skirt (kind of like your 2nd dress) will look great, as it will help create hips. Fit & flare mermaid is probably the second most flattering shape. I would stay away from ballgowns as they can be too heavy on smaller frames.
If you have short torso, avoid higher waist placement, low cut strapless dresses, or sheer materials in the mid-section. V-neck or boat neck will look good.
Belt or boning always helps accentuates the waste.
Good luck & have fun with it!

Have you tried Azazie?? They have many color options and they offer a custom fit for free! So when you go to order the dress you measure yourself and put your exact measurements in the fields and they create a custom dress based off your personal meausrements!

    BEAUTIFUL

OP, I was going to say, the second dress you posted will probably be best - there isn't a drop waist and your seamstress could alter it very well simply by trimming the bottom.

I'm 5'3" and "athletic" so I'm a few inches taller, but my seamstress actually pulled UP my "skirt" so I didn't lose the dress shape. It will be annoying to try on dresses, but seamstresses really can work miracles.

I agree with others to try something without a drop waist (like the first dress you posted), and look for dresses that are sheaths or A-Line.

    You'll find something!

I’m also tiny! 5 ft and 90lbs. I don’t have much of a shape either. My first trip dress shopping was dedicated to trying different shaped dresses. I found that fit n flare and a line look best on me.

I'm 5'8" (not short at all, so I can't offer any advice there) but I'm 115 pounds so I can understand the frustration in trying to find things that fit well and are flattering to my shape. A-line dresses looked the best on me and also made me feel the most like a bride. My sister is 4'11" and about 115 pounds and she looks great in an A-line style with a defined waist.

I'm the same height as you and everyone I know like us that has gotten married has gotten alterations. They all looked beautiful and you will too! (Wedding dresses usually run long even for taller women b/c you can take away fabric but it is harder to add it in) When you go shopping let the ladies at the store know that this is your concern, but also what you like, any ideas you have - they will help you find what you want.

I'm 5'0" and have a short torso and some curves. I have a hard time finding clothes in general, and was super anxious about wedding dress shopping. I was probably more than a little melodramatic that I wouldn't find anything! Just be open to trying on lots of different things. Smiley smile I never expected to end up with a ball gown, but fell in love with this one. A lot of David's Bridal dresses come in petite sizes.
