Petals down the aisle

Soon2BMrsCecil, on October 31, 2013 at 10:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

We're planning a rustic country wedding with lots of burlap and lace. The flowers of choice will be sunflowers (grown on my dad's farm) and baby's breath. The ceremony will be outside. What would you guys recommend the flower girls drop, if anything?

PS...I'm not a fan of rose petals. Especially since they aren't making any type of appearance anywhere else.

Your flower girls don't even have to drop anything. I have been to several Catholic weddings where the churches don't allow flower petals (or anything) to be dropped in the aisles and the flower girls just carried the baskets and that was it.

Maybe just have your flower girl carry a single sunflower down the aisle instead of dropping petals?

@KatieM520...that's what the FH said. If we can't come up with anything else then that's fine with me.

@Laura...so simple yet I never even thought of that! Thanks!!

Mine will be a winter wedding so we are having them drop white pompom balls for a snowball effect. I've seen it done with bright colours for a summer wedding though. I thought it was cute.

I like the single flower idea.

Maybe they can carry a couple of flowers and give them to special people (like grandparents, moms) when they get to the front.

@hellothere...that's adorable!! And it may be cheaper than making all 10 "moms" corsages!

My two flower girls are passing out flowers,... I'm just going to tell them to give them to whom ever they want.. each one will have about 6-8, and even if they pass them all to the same person, or run up and down deciding on who gets them... I think it will be sweet and funny all at once. .

Maybe instead of flowers they toss some type of dissolving confetti.

Why not have them toss sunflower petals?

My florists suggested the flower girls carry a kissing ball. We went against that idea, although if our venue didn't allow flower throwing we probably would've taken offer... IDK what flowers she'll be throwing, we'll probably just buy some cheap-y rose petals the morning of, they weren't included in our flower package.

What if they carried a sunflower and pulled off a few petals while walking down the aisle, like "he loves me, he loves me not"... but I do love the idea of them handing out the flowers like suggested. Sounds so cute.

I've also seen weddings where the flower girl carrys a flower "ball" bouquet. I think that's what i'll have my FG do since she will still be young and she is pretty shy
