Personalized Paper Napkins

Meghan, on January 20, 2020 at 9:50 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18
My mom has been pushing for us to get personalized napkins saying they aren't a waste of money and people will keep them. How many people actually save these napkins are they worth it?

I don't think anyone would save a paper napkin aside from MAYBE a super close relative that scrapbooks everything. They're a nice touch, but definitely an unnecessary expense. If she's willing to pay for them, I would let her do so, otherwise tell her you don't want to waste the money.

I personally would not keep a napkin unless it was my own wedding.

I'm older middle-aged and remember personalized napkins from the weddings I went to as a teenager. At the time they seemed super-cool.... Now? Not so much. I have not seen a personalized napkin (or matchbook! Smiley winking ) at a wedding in probably 30 years. It's hard to imagine anyone keeping one as a keepsake, except maybe your mom. Like a pp said, if this is critical to her, it's definitely NOT a hill to die on, so let her order away....

My friend has personalized napkins for her wedding and it never even crossed my mind to keep one.

We had them at cocktail hour, I ordered them on sale from Oriental Trading Company so they were pretty cheap. I thought they were a cute touch that was easy to do.

We’re doing personalized napkins for cocktail hour because that portion of our day will be especially fun with entertainment and other elements (FH and I are joining in on our happy hour and not missing anything we paid for). So the napkins add to the cocktail hour fun. But like nearly every other aspect of a wedding... it’s a waste! So it’s up to the couple to decide where they’ll waste money on their wedding. If you don’t want personalized napkins, then definitely pass. Also, we do not expect that guests will save our napkins (that’s a bit odd... Lol). For now the plan is that one set will say “Drunk in Love”, the second set will have our 2 hashtags on it with the wedding date and the third set will have a list of “fun facts” about FH and I. But the napkins will be used and tossed in the trash like any other. We’ll order enough for the first 2 rounds of drinks and then the bar’s napkins can be used after that since the novelty of them will be done.

If your mom wants them have her get them. I honestly think it’s just the older crowd who wants them. Like when we did save the dates, for the older family we sent magnets. They all loved and saved them.

I feel the younger generation doesn’t want to collect clutter.

All of this (except I might be on the younger side of middle-aged Smiley winking). I think it's pretty funny actually that your mom is insisting people are going to save the napkins. I can almost guarantee that is not the case, but if she wants to spend the money on them, it doesn't really matter.

That said, if SHE is insisting YOU buy them, then I would say no thank you and change the subject. "Waste of money" is certainly a subjective thing but she doesn't get to decide where you spend your money.

Honestly i wouldn’t even keep that! I’m sorry to admit that i keep NOTHING that is personalized with someone else’s name/date/location/event and i would not keep a napkin with my own name on it either.

Napkins get used and thrown away.

If she wants to spend HER 💵 on that type of “must have”, then let her.

Nope. I'm not even getting napkins to go with my colors. The venue has napkins that will work just fine AND it's one less thing for me to think about. I'm pretty sure my FH parent's used some of their wedding napkins at Christmas this year and they got married almost 40 years ago.

Oh, and not a single person I know would save them. Even my Grandma is trying to get rid of stuff these days. If she wants to pay for them, sure. If she says you need to, uh...no.

I’m going to be getting personalized napkins because I love the extra special touch they add and they are actually relatively inexpensive (I work at Party City and get a discount so that helps a ton! If anyone is looking for personalized napkins or cups we offer them!) However, I don’t think anyone would keep them, that’s odd to me. It’s your day and you have a budget to stick to so if you don’t want them, don’t do it. Maybe mention something like “mom, I think it’s a fun idea but I would rather put my money towards something else. If you would like to contribute them to my big day I would love to have them though!”

I can tell you I’ve ordered really nice ones a bunch and Party City has 100 personalized beverage napkins with three lines of print for $29.40 plus tax (plus you can wait for a percentage off coupon to use!)

The personalized paper napkin thing kinda went away like 15-20 years ago lol. I wouldn't waste money on them. I don't think I have ever kept one longer than a few days then I toss it not ever knowing what to do with a napkin! There are so many different favor ideas that are probably cheaper and people will actually want to save.

Uh my mom insists on them too! Smiley amazing She has a shadow box that has her wedding invitation, personalized matchbook and personalized napkins in it but it's not even on display anywhere. She has it buried in a box in the garage so I truly don't understand her obsession with that stuff. I don't think that anyone is going to keep a paper napkin except maybe a very close older relative. If she wants to order them then let her. I'm sure that I'll have them at my wedding whether I know about it happening or not.

Wedding favors that I still have from Weddings in the EARLY 2000’s: a 📔Mark, 🎶💿, and a Matchbook.

I was still listening to the 💿as of 2017.
The 👰from the 💿and📔Mark Wedding was one of my Hostesses last year.
    I don’t 🚬, so I really don’t have a use for the Matchbook.
