First off, I just want to clarify by saying I absolutely planned a wedding within my budget. Most of my payments are completed and everything would have been in order.... However, we just got word at my job that our company will be going through a merger and so there might be layoffs coming very soon. I was counting on these last few checks to make sure absolutely everything is fully taken care of. Now that said, I don't expect all of the details to be finalized for layoffs and stuff in the less than 2 months until my wedding date, but I'm trying to think ahead and JUST IN CASE on the off chance I am one of the unlucky ones and all of this happens sooner than expected, I want to know if anyone has any experience with taking out a personal loan. Do you have any advice or stories you can share?? I know I'm probably stressing over nothing, but i really would rather have my research done now even if I don't need to use it than be stuck running around last minute. Thanks, all!

@JGCT- thank you! We haven't even thought of that! I'm hoping we don't have to worry about it either, but a cc would be our second option after asking our parents for a small loan. I've actually already made my parents aware and they said they can loan us about half of what we would need if it comes to it, which is great. Smiley smile

@Carol I'm still not getting it. @Kerry No, everyone does not have debt. The only "debt" I have is my mortgage. Stop trying to normalize it.

Definitely do not take out a personal loan if you can avoid it. From your update it seems like you have some better options before getting to that point and a lot of PP's have given great advice. Good luck and I hope everything works out with your job

@Kerry - FH is not in debt. I am, but I am currently a student so it is student loans. My parents aren't in debt except their mortgage. My brother and sister in law aren't in debt at all. I could keep going with people who are not in debt. A lot of people don't have debt. Also, what someone spends on their wedding is what works for them. Judging people for spending 30k+ on a wedding just because you wouldn't doesn't make it wrong. FH and I are spending that much on ours and we don't make anywhere near 6 figures, but we can afford it and make it work. We actively save for our wedding and don't spend on things we currently do not need. This is our choice and we are doing it without going into debt while still being able to live comfortably

My advise is to get wedding cancellation insurance. I was looking into the policy on wedsafe and unexpected layoffs are covered for partial non payment due. Not sure if you would have to cancel for this to cover but I would call them to find out. Better safe than sorry.

    Thank you, @April!

@Melissa- I didn't know wedding cancellation insurance could cover this stuff! I really thought it was only for calling off a wedding or if a reschedule is needed due to any weather related events. This is great info, I'll look into it!

Also, I just wanted to update everyone- I finally worked up the guts and reached out to a friend of mine from college who has his own small business and he is willing to offer me a temporary part time position if the layoffs affect me until I can find something better. Thank you again everyone for all of the support! This was the last thing I ever thought I'd have to work around while wedding planning and even though nothing has officially happened yet, it's been so stressful.

I am planning to get loan for wedding by the mid of this year. Any suggestion for loan provider in Finland.

I found one here but don't know; if any one have had experience with them?

You can use online loan service to be less stressed. It's a simple way to get money, but you don't need to pass through complicate procedures. Good luck!
