Period with implant

Kasey, on April 26, 2018 at 11:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
Got my implant for the first time a month ago. My period is lasting much longer this time and I'm afraid it wont end before the wedding. Thoughts? Ideas?

Call your doctor to see if that's normal.

Go to the doctor sometimes they can give you a medication that will help stop it

Depending on what type you have, it could be a normal reaction to your body adjusting to new devices and/or hormones. It could also be a sign of a problem. You need to speak with your practitioner.

Did you get a handout with the implant? Changes in bleeding, irregular bleeding, and longer/heavier periods are all possible side effects. They usually go away within a few months.

I have the mirena iud and that’s a normal thing your first period after it. Eventually your periods will shorten, but the cramps are killer

I would discuss it with your doctor and mention your upcoming wedding.

However, yes changes in bleeding occur with starting LARC's and you can't predict it until you've tried it.

Not sure if you mean implant or IUD, but I also have a nexplanon and was worried about the same. My OB/GYN told me its difficult to predict and everyone has different experiences. I haven't had a period since implantation.

I would call your doctor, they can give you a medication to temporarily stop your cycle, so you can enjoy your wedding! Good luck Smiley smile

By “implant” I’m assuming you mean the nexplanon?

I spotted for a month straight after I had my nexplanon inserted. It wasn’t heavy, just some blood when I would wipe and it hardly ever made it to the panty liner. My OBGYN said that if I was bleeding for an extended period of time she could put me on an oral contraceptive to stop it but she wouldn’t prescribe it because the bleeding was so light. It eventually stopped and I didn’t get my period for like 2 years. I’d call your doctor and see what they can do for you.

I've been that route. Bled for 7 months straight until I went back to my doctor and told her to get that thing out of me.

Generally, doctors want you to try it out for at least 6 months. It takes some time for your body to adjust to it and it's hit and miss on whether or not you love it. The first month is always the worst. You'll have a pretty good idea of whether or not you'll keep it by month 3.

I absolutely hated it, but there have been plenty of women that had better results than me. Just stick with it and talk to your doctor. I believe there's a pill you can take that helps you stop bleeding as often, but that's a hit and miss as well.

I have the arm implant, first month sucks but after that it got a lot better. I get mine now every 3 months very light for like 4-5 days.

If it's nexplanon I advise against it completely. I know others who have great experiences with it but I had mine for exactly two years. Efore having it removed. I had my period for 3 weeks out of every month. It was hell. After that I got it taken out I started using Daysy (over a year now) with perfect success and not only did my periods return to normal but I only have them for 3 days a month. Pure bliss.
