People sending flowers

Rebecca, on June 22, 2020 at 3:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Ok, this is a weird one. We got married in a super small (10 person) ceremony on Friday. It was a lovely day and I’m so glad we did! My husband’s family decided last minute to fly out from California so they could be there. My MIL decided we needed decorations and decided to order us flowers to put on the three tables. Super thoughtful, but I am SUPER allergic to flowers. I have a wooden bouquet and all of the centerpieces I planned were going to be flower-free because I turn into a snot fountain. Fast forward a little bit, and my husband’s friend sends a bouquet as well. Again, very thoughtful, but now I have 4 arrangements of allergies in my house. On numerous occasions, it had been made abundantly clear I am allergic to flowers to all people involved. We are still planning (hopefully) to have our big celebration next summer, and I’m seriously worried more flowers will be sent 🙄. Is there a polite way to tell people to NOT send flowers because I get splotchy, swollen, and snotty?

Oh wow definitely make note of it on a wedding website if you have one because that is concerning for you. you can even say artificial or alternative flowers are welcome or something

I totally feel this post. I'm super allergic to flowers too. Last year I was in a wedding with real flowers. My FH had to bring me more medication for allergies after the pre-ceremony pictures. Thankfully after the ceremony I didn't have my bouquet anymore. We are doing fake flowers. But I agree with PP just put it on your website.

I honestly don’t think I would say anything. Write a thank you card and discard them or put them on your porch or something.

Agree with this. However donate them to a nursing home or funeral parlor instead of tossing them out. But do send a gracious prompt thank you.

I am highly allergic to flowers in planters but cut flowers from the florist don't bother me because the pollen has been removed.

I love this idea, but it’s his family that thinks they need to send the flowers and as long as we actually have the wedding they’re going to be staying with us for a couple days before and several days after, so that wouldn’t be an option 🙄.
