People not filling out names on rsvp

Rachel, on August 21, 2019 at 3:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19
I’m so glad I numbered all my RSVPs because I’ve gotten 7 back without names on them!! That’s ridiculous! Why don’t people know this?

I'm planning on doing the same thing and numbering mine. I didn't even know people did this until i joined this forum. A lot of people complaining about names not being filled in. Its so odd to me.

Numbering them is a good idea. I didn't do that and I had a couple no names too

Good thinking! We did online rsvp for the most part. Some people got rsvp cards e.g. people from work who I didn't want all over my wedding website and grandparents, who aren't as tech savvy. The few we did were numbered, too.

We put "Name" instead of "M" so thankfully everyone filled it out! But we did number them just in case.

We used "Guest names" as well and still had people not fill them out! I was like okay...that was the least amount of effort you could have put into this.
Clearly your name and address were too much to handle.... 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

This is what we did and I’m pretty sure I stole it from one of your posts lol. We haven’t sent out invitations, but I’m hoping that actually putting “name” makes it clearer for people.

Yeah I just knew a lot of our guests would be like "....M????" so "Name" was easier haha! And no one filled it out "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" anyway, they put "Sam & Sally Smith" or whatever. We bought a black light pen & wrote names on the back of all the RSVPs, but didn't need to because everyone wrote on theirs that sent them back. We had around 110 RSVPs total, 60 in the mail, 20 online, and we had to track down the other 30.

Hahaha we had one no name but she put her return address so that was easy. And a few that were completely illegible. Thankfully we numbered ours too!

So frustrating. This is why I numbered mine too after seeing the tip on here!

Sometimes people just forget. I forgot to do one for a wedding we were invited to a few months ago.

I generally assume some people will mess up anything, so I numbered mine. But I ran into something with hubby's family I never thought about, it would not happen in my culture. Messed me up on early RSVP, and place cards, seating chart. He has a huge family. And we had a wedding for 16 yr olds and up. But the next day had a 11-8 brunch through supper cookout for any wedding guest staying, and all children traveling. A families day, 167 kids added.
In an Italian family, very often fathers are named after their fathers, and name their own kids after themselves, or their brothers. So grandpa Joe , his son, his son, and one nephew and 3 of grampas grandsons, may all be named Anthony Grand ( example) . 6 people with same first and last name. 3 at the wedding, 6 when you add cookout day. And lots of people went sight seeing, fall day in the Catskills, so we had asked, what meals to have food for, lunch only, dinner only, lunch, dinner, all day. And we just needed some for food quantity, buffet style for cookout, but wedding was a formal dinner, Meals chosen earlier from a menu of 12 choices. I did not know which Joe was Giuseppe on the master list, who went by Joe, Joey, et . And there were Antoni and Anthony and Antonio, and which of the 5 Tony's was which? Worse, there was a lot if use if Saints' names, especially among the women. How could 3 Carl's be married to 3 Maria's, all same last name. Most of hubby's side is from 4 generations from his father's 8 brothers and one sister .ages 84 to 3 months . I had stupidly thought, I will address envelopes with formal names, formal wedding. But place cards, menu choices, RSVP, no titles, so people I had listed as Gianni and Maria filled out John and Mary on RSVP and John and Maria on separate meal choice on menu card .

Even numbering, it took me 3 hours long distance with my MIL to get them all right. I tore up as many cards as I did right . Little decisions like numbering cards, or using formal names on one thing but casual names on another, who knew there were 6 formal and informal names all for someone named Joe. I used to marvel at people's names when I worked catering, but never did all the different formalities of envelopes and cards. Even when people do put down their names, they do it differently on different things. My computer took to having brief seizures.

We got 2 with no names filled out, though one at least had a return address label on it. We did the number thing just in case.

Interesting, it didn't even occur to me NOT to fill in the names on the RSVPs before sending invitations out, but I did receive one back that forgot to check accept or decline so although they sent it, we still did not know if they were coming. We laughed about it because we were so excited to see one in the mail and then we opened it and felt like it was a teaseSmiley smile

I filled in their names to combat this and them writing in uninvited people’s names. I received an RSVP card with “Bringing Daughter and grandson” HANDwritten om it.
