Payment of a wedding planner

Twila, on March 8, 2017 at 12:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Is it unusual for a wedding planner and coordinator to ask for a down payment ? Also is 300 too much ?

No it's a service being provided and most likely has had brides cancel wedding in past and get screwed.. that's all

Not unusual at all. Why would anyone hold a date for you and do work on your behalf without any financial incentive from you? They are business people, not volunteers.

It isn't abnormal for a down payment at all. I consider a planner as the same category as your other vendors that usually require a down payment. I actually think $300 is on the inexpensive side.

Our planner is costing us $1800, and we had to put down $1000 as a deposit when we signed our contract.

Most of my wedding vendors required at least a 50% deposit upfront to hold my date and begin working together!

Nope. Most vendors require a (often non-refundable) retainer. Is $300 the total for your planner/coordinator, or the deposit/retainer? Either way, it might not be too much (depending on what you're getting). Coordinator/planning services can often run from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.

That is a good price. My DOC is 1700. She wanted half down the week I booked a number of things and I was tapped out. She agreed at a lesser amount. You can always negotiate.
