Paying for the Wedding ourselves

Neither me or my Fiance come from families with lots of money. We are funding our Wedding ourselves. Our budget I feel is really low $5000-$7000 tops. Question is......What route should we go for food with a guest list of around 150 people?

Wow, I wish I read your comment before I wrote mine because we have the same advice! Civic/government centers are the way to go for sure. Right now I'm following all of this advice and our wedding is budgeted at $6.3k

Great minds think alike ! Mine will be around $8000, but I did choose a steeper priced state park venue (though it's tax deductible).

If it's not too late to decide on a venue try to see if you can have your reception at an all you can eat buffet. There are a few Chinese food buffets that have party rooms and will charge around 10/person and so if you get a cake from Sam's club or Walmart you can feed everyone and not worry about cleaning up. But don't cut your guest list for anyone else's sake. It's your close friends and family, you decide how to best entertain them. Good luck

We have the same budget and we live in wichita,ks. We're making it work. We're thinking around 150-175 guests will show but told our caterer 200 in case and he's only charging us $600.
You just need to shop around for deals. Also join a local wedding fb group. I've been getting stuff cheap!! And lots of good recommendations and advice from local wedding fb groups.
