Paying for Guests' Hotel Rooms?

Kelly, on January 17, 2022 at 11:10 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Are we supposed to pay for out of town guests' hotel rooms? I didn't think so but the Wedding Wire budget tool includes a line for it. I'd need to redesign my wedding if this is the case because hotel rooms for everyone will blow my budget.

If it's in your budget and you want to pay for everyone's rooms, it's certainly a kind gesture, though absolutely not expected or required by any means! Guests are typically responsible for covering their own travel/accommodations.

Paying for your guests hotel rooms Is certainly not required or expected. If it’s in the budget, it’s a nice gesture. But if it’s not, that’s OK. We are having an out-of-state wedding, but paying for everybody’s hotel rooms was definitely not in our budget; but we still wanted to help with the costs as much as we could. So instead, we are paying for their rooms just on the night of our wedding. You could do something like that, if it’s in your budget. Another thing you could do would be to call around to hotels to see if they offer discounts on room rates with their hotel blocks. It’s usually not a huge discount, but it still saves your guests a little bit of money!

    I second Cece's advice.

The cost of attending a wedding that isn't local can be quite expensive but I personally have never known anyone to actually have the budget to cover guest accommodation and in no way is it expected of the marrying couple.

No. If you have billions of dollars laying around then that would be generous. Guests pay for and book their own rooms. If you want, you can set up a courtesy block that doesn’t make you financially liable. But often, guests are able to find lower rates on their own outside of a block.

No, you're not expected to pay for accommodation for your guests. A lot of the WW website information is not accurate, from what I've seen.

You are not but you can secure hotel blocks. By doing so, guests will be to get discounted prices for their stay.
