So I have two cake tastings this weekend, one I have to pay $30 for. I have noticed that with some of the others I have looked at. For those of you who have already been to their tastings, how much cake do you sample, or do they give you that would warrant $30? How do all of you feel about how some...

How do all of you feel about how some cake makers charge you for the tasting?

Add on: Why are wedding cakes so dang expensive?! The average cake in my area with everything included is about $550, yikesarooney!

Our tasting was free and the cake was included with the venue we chose, but my planner told us to budget $750 for a cake for 150 people.

I wouldn't pay for a tasting... They are auditioning for your business. You'll be paying them enough for the actual cake

Personally I find no issue with paying for the samples due to the time and effort it takes to make the samples. Luckily my cake is included in the venue so I do not have this issue. However, my fiance and I are still wanting to taste a few cakes out there so we will pay Smiley smile

Also I have heard of brides getting a real wedding cake made on the smaller scale, and have a sheet cake in the back which the guests would be served. It cut a lot in costs maybe this is an option for many brides.

The bakery we went with required a credit card to book and charged $35 if you were a no show. The tasting itself was free whether you went with them or not.
