Paying for a Dance Floor?

Audra, on April 10, 2011 at 9:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

The reception hall my fiance and I are looking at is beautiful but the only problem? It has a 15x15 dance floor that costs $150.00 to use (I imagine they move it if you don't pay for it)

1. That's smaller than I imagined a dance floor to be

2. My fh thinks we could dance on carpet

3. I wouldn't be heartbroken without a dance floor but I think it would look better

feedback?

Yikes, that is small. How many guests do you have? If you're inviting a lot of people that floor could get crowded very quickly.

Do you think you could get a better deal at a rental supply place?

I think it would be more of a PITA to move it. I'd negotiate it into the contract. If the venue owns it- it shouldn't be a problem. If they contract it out- I'd be trying to get a bigger one from a company on your own.

And dancing on carpet will be hard, but not impossible. The big thing is making sure there is a clearly defined dancing area... wood floor or not.

It is very small. I have never heard of having to pay extra for a dance floor at a venue, but then again, I have not needed to have one that wasn't already part of a venue.

$150 is probably very reasonable. I am sure that the venue has to spend a considerable amount, after every so many used, to have this floor refinished so it looks pretty.

The room rents at $350 with an amazing view. It has an $350 deposit which later goes to the room rental after its all said and done. I'm having 144 guests in a 170 guest allowed room. I know not everyone is gonna dance but its pretty tiny. I know a party rental company that has a dance floor rental (maybe I can add more and negotiate it in my contract?) that pays per square foot. It would be big enough for father/daughter dance, first dance, and other couple dances but just seems small Smiley tongue Other aspects of the room is amazing tho...

Wow that is an amazing place, and the price is even better! I would say do what you have to to fix the dance floor situation. The places over here charge $300 extra for dance floor use.

15x15 is too small for your guest count… that would be okay for 100 max. Either use the dance floor that they provide & have the overflow dance on the carpet or rent a 20' floor. Typically you can't just rent the additional pieces because there are multiple styles of floor so the venue & the rental company would need to have the same kind. For example, a 15x15 means that the pieces are 3x3. Pieces also come in 3x4 sizes and can't be used with a 3x3 floor. The trims are totally different & the connections are in different places. Also, colors & finishes vary so mixing them typically looks bad. I hope that helps! If I were you I would get a couple rental quotes (that include delivery & pick up) and see if you can fit it in the budget.
