Pay in full discount?

Sara P., on October 25, 2017 at 12:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

We are in the process of getting quotes and hoping to hire a DJ soon. One of the DJs we are leaning towards hiring is offering a $50 discount if paid in full at time of deposit. Otherwise he requires a 50% deposit with the balance due 10 days before the wedding. What are your thoughts on paying in full this early? Wedding is a year away.

I am all for the discounts! If you can afford to pay them off immediately then I say do it, make sure you have a contract and receipt that states paid in full!

$50 isn't enough to make me want to pay in full that far in advance. $100? Maybe. A lot can happen in a year. If it was closer to the wedding date it might be a different story for me personally...

What does the contract state about what you get back if the contract ends up needing to be terminated by either party? Because with a pay in full, there is essentially no deposit.

If you have the money to pay in full I don't see why not.

Just make sure your contract is solid and air tight.

We paid most of our vendors in full to receive the discounts or extra perks. I personally think it's for the best as long as it states in your contract paid in full and you love your vendor. I knew for photographer and DJ I wasn't going to change

$50 is too little of a discount for me to run the risk of paying in full ahead of time, especially with your wedding a year away

Thats not much of a discount to me. Especially with your wedding being a year away. What happens if you need to cancel them or they cancel? What type of money will you get back, if any? Make sure you read your contract carefully.

We paid in full for everyone who did this. Saving is saving. We just made sure that the contract stated that if we cancel and the deposit is lost, that it would still be the same deposit as if we paid just that. Regardless, if something happens and we loose the deposit, it would be the same both ways.

It's nice to get as many payments out of the way early. Easier for your budgeting and one less thing to to close to the wedding. I'd pay early.

If your contract allows you to get your money back (minus deposit) then I don't see a problem with this, however, $50 wouldn't be enough for me to take the risk.

My photographer didn't charge tax or travel fees if we paid in full, so we did because it amounted to about a $500 savings for us.

For $50 I think it's too risky. What if he bails on you and then you're out 100% instead of just the deposit. Seems suspicious to me that he would want payment in full and then have to do a job a year later for which he won't receive any additional compensation. For cash flow reasons, that doesn't seem like a good business plan.

I paid in full for my DJ. It is a small enough amount out of the total budget to just get it out of the way.
