Patio Heat Lamps

Thistle, on December 18, 2008 at 11:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has experience using patio heat lamps for at a wedding. My reception venue is outside near Asheville, North Carolina in mid-October. The venue is not windy because it is somewhat sheltered (and there is a roof), but it is open on one side, so there is no keeping the cold out. The weather is so unpredictable. It may be 80, but it may be 60. I am planning to have some heat lamps on hand. I was wondering if anyone has been to a wedding that used them and what they thought? Were they warm enough? Did the guests seem uncomfortable? Any other suggestions to ensure that nobody (including myself) gets too cold?

I have been to wedding where they were used and am planning to have them at my wedding as well, its in the summer but right on the water so it might get a bit chilley. What i like about them is that guests can position themselves around the lamps depending on how warm or cold they are. Dont put them right next to the tables so that your guests wont be able to get away from them during dinner. You can also get some that have adjustable heat settings so if you do have them near the tables they will be adjustable. Speak to your reception site and find out how they were placed before, you can also ask the rental company that you plan to use how many they reccomend for your reception site size.

I have used different kinds and I think the best is a "heat cannon" (i'm not sure of the technical name for them) but its just a big cylinder you set pretty far away (they casing can get hot obviously) and it lets out a light warm "breeze" along the floor which will rise and make everyone nice and toasty...and if your having it outdoor with some covering it should maintain heat under the roof. We always used them for outdoor parties and they seemed to do the trick in the colder months.

The only thing about them is that they're kinda ugly =/

Thanks! Good suggestions. I will look into the different kinds, and see if there is some way that I can dress them up a little.

I'd check two places: the venue and ask them for recommendations, and a couple tent companies. They'll be able to suggest the best type of unit, and where to get them.
