Pastor gifts

Kayla, on October 14, 2017 at 7:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

Our pastor is marrying us and he is a very important person in our lives. We want to get him a nice gift for marrying us but are on a budget as well. Any ideas for nice but affordable gifts for officiant?

Maybe a book to add to his collection? You guys could write a dedication in the front.

Cash is always good. I've never met a local pastor who is overpaid.

We gave ours money and a nice card.

ETA. I would give money no matter what but if you wanted to add something small and personal - a book or something related to a hobby he might have (golf, fishing, music, etc)

FH goes golfing with ours so we will most likely do a golf gift certificate or and IOU a round type of thing with a thoughtful card. But I totally agree with cash because like Muriel said they are definitely not overpaid

My dad is a pastor and I think he appreciates being able to have some extra money to take my mom out to dinner for a date. Pastors don't make much, and what they do have is often used to serve the members of the congregation. Giving a gift card to a local restaurant and/or a movie theater would be a nice gesture!

How much would you guys say? We can't afford to give him like $200. What's a good amount that's not so little it's offensive ?

The pastor that I wanted to officiate our wedding unfortunately isn't going to do it. Even though he helped raise me and literally calls me his daughter he can't put mine and my FH's differing religions behind him. I'm completely heart broken over this but it is what it is I guess.

If he were to officiate I would have bought him a pocket knife and gotten it engraved with something meaningful to him. He doesn't take cash because when he does weddings he counts it as his families wedding present to the couple but I would have tried to throw in a bass pro shop gift card or something he'd like in as well

I was told that the "recommended" gift to our priest is $150. Its optional, but customary and highly encouraged.

Cash, at least 200.00. That is about the least any good officiant should be charging.
