Passport

Cynthia, on December 22, 2019 at 4:03 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 6
Hello ladies!! So my passport expires this year. Of course! And since I'm getting married in 10 months I plan to change my last name. But for our honeymoon FH and I want to go to Bora Bora. If I renew my passport with my current last name am I going to have to pay all over again and get a new passport with my new last name? Because we are spending more on our honeymoon then our wedding (YOLO) so I'm on a budget and didn't even think about the passport issue.

Hopefully someone knows because I'm clueless!!

If you change your name on your passport within a year of renewing it, you won’t have to pay the fee again.

Just be aware that it may take some time to get the name on your passport changed. If your honeymoon is right after your wedding, you may want to leave your name on your passport (and tickets) as it is, and then change it once you get home.

Passports are being done fast right now! I got mine in 2 weeks! They also told me I can change my name for free if it’s within a year of issue date. Mine was issued 12/19 and our wedding is 8/22/20.. so I should have plenty of time to change my name within the year time frame. Happy Travels!

Renew your passport in your maiden name. Book your tickets to Bora Bora in your maiden name, then when you get back get your name changed on your passport. I was outside the year’s grace period to get the free name change so I travelled under my maiden name for four years after getting married because I didn’t want to pay to renew unnecessarily. So long as passport and tickets match, no one cares.

This is what I plan to do too. Had to renew mine in October and I'm getting married in September next year. That only leaves me a month to renew after my wedding so hopefully everything goes smoothly with the name change and passport renewal! 🤞
