Passport question

Kristina, on May 22, 2019 at 11:59 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5

So we are going to the Caribbean for our honeymoon and are in the processes of making sure all our paperwork is good to go for the trip. We did the passport processes for FH and he received his very quickly. I had a question with mine and with no real straight forward answer from anyone, I have been putting mine on the backburner trying to see what I can do.

So question, my current passport is in my married name from my first marriage, my DL is in my maiden name. I am wondering can I skip bringing my DL on the trip and just bring the passport and once we are home have it and DL put in my new married name?

The reason I am hesitant to change my passport is I don't want to have to pay $110 now to change back to my maiden name, an then another $110 to change to my new married name when we get back.

I hope this isn't super confusing. Smiley smile

If you want to change your name on your passport less than a year after it was issued, they will not charge you for a new one!

In general you wait until after the honeymoon to change anything. That being said your name needs to match on everything.
You probably could get away with leaving the DL at home as long as your ticket matches your passport, and assuming you won't need to DL on your trip.

I did not know that, I will defiantly check it out. I am thinking I changed it about 9 months before our divorce decree was issued. So I wonder if they will change it back based on the divorce decree date? The passport was the very last thing I had done. Thank you for the info!

Oh goodness I didn't even think about it matching our tickets for the flight and cruise. Everyone I have talked to has not even brought that up, so thank you!

You both are awesome, and gave me a direction to go for this. Thank you so so much. Smiley smile

You'll want to double check this is correct of course, but I thought the DL, passport and any other travel documents all had to match. Especially with all the added security on flights these days, if your names don't match, they may not let you on the plane. So, although I agree that it would suck to have to pay $110 now and again after you're married, it may be your only option.
